I'm 6'-2", 240, more torso than legs, and my car is an '83 S with power seats and sunroof. When I bought the car I thought the seat was stuck in its highest position. I had to adopt a serious slouch AND tilt my neck to drive it. Investigation revealed that the seat was malfunctioning, but it wasn't as high as it would go, it was stuck somewhere in middle. As it was thrashed and uncomfortable I replaced it with a Corbeau GTS II. Even using the stock mounting holes in the body and a slim mounting bracket supplied with seat, which itself has a very thin lower section, I still hit the roof. And even with a longish torso, as a rule I tend to sit low in a car. I'm confounded by this situation. I have a non-sunroof bodyshell but I am not ready to handle a unibody swap just at the moment...

Dear Texas Bloke,
Prior to leaping out of airplanes (Bag on a Rag). and sliding down long ropes from wirlybirds
(Dope on a Rope) for Uncle Sam I was 6' 3 1/2", some what slimmer at 194 lbs -and handsome-.
Due to some rather dreadful altercations with gravity and physics -age has nothing to do with this- I am now almost 6' 2" tall, not quite a svelte 242 lbs, - and had a non-makeup part in Lord of the Rings as a bad guy.
There is an apparent upside to the shortnin', thicknin' process, I fit the Weissach with a handswidth of space between the graying pate and the leather of the sunroof guts cover.
Keep in mind this is for short runs, say 50 miles or so.
Serious cruising -over two hours- or interstate travel requires me to raise the seat for back support.
At that point I can no longer wear a baseball cap because even the smallest bump will drive "that friggen' hat button into my skull". Additionally, for long distance comfort I tuck my left foot/leg behind
the right foot/leg and have a small, fluffy -That's right! Fluffy!- towel to support my left knee against the door panel.
And who, pray tell, are you trying to lure into our little nest of snakes/sHARKs?

John,
Someone from Vermont who is about to buy a beautiful 79 from my neck of the woods.
After seeing the wonderful response from the group he will soon be an active member.
The guy selling the car also has an 89 and is equally keen to join after my pitch for the benefits of Rennlist membership.
I will post pictures of the 79 when the deal is consummated.

I'm 6'-01", about 190 lbs.
My 1979, no sunroof.....stock power seats (broken in, 108,000 miles), plenty of headroom. With Recaro seat, antler room. With Recaro seat and helmet, still enough headroom.
My 1980, with sunroof.....stock power seats (not even broken in yet, 12,000 miles on them), a little headroom. With helmet, I have to scrunch head and neck down, wedge helmet against roof. Sucks after a 100 mile ORR. With Recaro seat and helmet, I still touch roof with helmet, but not as much as power seat.
My 1987 with sunroof.....stock 12 way power seats, plenty of headroom. With helmet, just barely touches roof. With Recaro seat and helmet, plenty of headroom, does not touch roof.
Wierd. I guess the seat rails are different height in each model.
