Default Engine shipping

Hi all...hoping for some help......some may remember my first hand experience with TBF last summer....i have managed to locate and buy a new (to me) 1988 S4 engine from fellow 928'er Gary Knox in West Chester Pennsylvania. Gary is paletizing and crating the motor for shipping and i have been trying to arrange the shipping....to no avail....Freightland, located in PA, took two weeks to finally tell me they couldn't ship it out west. I know there must be a national trucking outfit in the States that ships coast to coast. What i would prefer is the motor be shipped to a freight depot in Wkashington State....Spokane, or Omak....someplace like that....then i would drive across the border and bring it home. Anyone with any ideas and or help?....its spring and i'm getting antsy, especially since i brought my wing home last nite and its a beautiful metalic silver.
Thanks
\John

Call Rixter at DC Auto or Jim B at 928 Intl. They both ship big Porsche parts regularly. I've heard the cheapest way to ship trannies is to drop them off at an air frieght company (I forget the name, but it has been posted here before). I don't know if they'd ship a nearly 600lb engine that way.

There's got to be an easy way to ship a crated motor. How about Forward Air? I've shipped a few motorcycles with them and they were very easy to deal with.

Just drop the bike off at one of their terminals, then pick it up at one of their terminals when it arrives.

Perhaps one of our vendors would have some tips, they must deal with large shipments all the time??

If you end up going with a Freight Service that drops off near Seattle, let me know and I may be able to help you get it rec'd. I have a pickup truck and might be able to pick it up, or otherwise help out with that part of it.

Forward Air or Bax Global... inexpensive and reliable
Bax will pickup and deliver anywhere, you must have a forklift to load/unload
Forward Air is cheaper but must be delivered and picked up at their depot locations

PS. both will also deliver to Canada AND take it thru customs!!!

John Veninger just shipped his motor to me with this company. (http://www.freightcenter.com/) Excellent transaction. NJ to Columbus was $249 WITH liftgate service at both end. NO shipping dock required.

They are brokers and basically find the best deal based on location. Obviously shipping across country will be more but he had a motor shipped last year for about $500.

I've shipped several engines coast to coast - Forward Air or FedEx Freight (used to be Arkansas Freightways) usually have the best rates.

Ended up ordering the shipping through Highway Freight....they'll pickup in PA at Gary Knox's residence and deliver to a freight company in Spokane WA. $475 which i thought was decent. If all goes well, i'll have the motor home by the week of the 17th. Because the motor i bought from Gary is from a 5 speed car and mine is an S4 auto, any advice on what i need to switch over so its compatible with the auto?
