Default Heater question

So, the car is a track car - no heater or heater components. Is there any reason why I shouldn't plug the heater intake hose and return hose?

Is it part of the actual engine cooling system?

Normally that hose is plugged off when you're not using the heater. Should be no problem capping it off.
