Default Air flow meter testing?

Is there any definitive way to test the air flow meter on an 81 l-jet?

Here is something I came across when I was looking it up. I might have the same problem- I'll worry about it after the Timing belt is replaced :-P

Hope this helps!

Ok I tested my AFM as noted in the page that Garth linked. Everything tested out fine. (so I think) Performed visual check of interior components, (no corosion) but noticed that the grove tracks were pretty decent. So I followed the instructions for refurbishing as listed. Moved the wiper south of it's factory position, reassembled and re-tested. Everything checked out fine. I put it back in the car and still running like crap!. When I say running like crap I mean that when it's connected the throttle response is so sluggish that when you give it gas it almost chokes out the misfires once rpms begin to climb. When it's disconnected it runs like a top but smokes like a freight train due to being rich.

What if I were just to switch to an AFPR? After all the only thing that the AFM controls is the fuel enrichment right?

Have you checked the diaphrams on the (3) fuel pressure reg. and dampers? Look for fuel in the vac lines .....
Re. the AFM, if the trap door swings freely and the rheostat is linear throughout its movement - that is about all that can be expected .... as long as the (idle**) enrichment bypass is not closed off and the difference is being compensated for via the idle screw.

** read 'idle mixture', not idle. ... my dumb error
