I found a replacement engine!
HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!! What seems to be too good to be true usually is!
Went roll the crank with a ratchet, turned easy......... I little too easy! Then I noticed that the cams weren't turning. Pulled the timing belt cover YEP! the other kind of TBF (Timing Belt Failure). What are the odds that the block is still good???????????????
BTW I only paid $300 for the whole thing!

Brent, you still won! Still a score!
Sure you gotta throw some new parts into the damaged engine, but then you will know it's condition is good inside and out and not have to wonder.
Good luck with the rebuild!

Heinrich,
How many 928 do you eaxactly have? For the last couple years I've noticed that you tend to buy up evrythign that is a good deal. You must have a fleet of 928 to require that many parts!
Brent,
You can pull out the spark plugs and with a flash light take alook at the top of each pistons. I'm pretty sure it is still good. Do you know if the engine came form an auto or 5-spedd? If it was an auto the short block will be fine is not, you need to pull it apart and look at it. Either way, for $300 it's one heck of a find

Imo, I have a floating collection, I enjoy buying and restoring easy fixes ... I used to be into 944's and the first couple of 928's were just for driving, but then I started looking for wrecks or cheapies for parts as parts were so expensive. Well, the first one needed just a windshield and fender and some lights. The next needed a tbelt job. The next also. The next needed a tie rod and so-on ..... I can't even bring myself to break the 80 I got from Porken because it hasno sunroof and as an 80 is emissions exempt!!
