Later S4 calipers went to the sticker style..think in 91?...not sure..but yes..same old style..just different on the lettering..

Later,
Tom
P.S. Hope you didn't pay big red pricing...

If they are not noticeably bigger than S4 calipers, then they are not "Big Reds". Maybe they are "big reds" from a 944 perspective, but they do not sound like what is usually called by that name on a 928.

The 951S calipers are the same as the early S4's. The later S4's and GT brakes have 2 different sized pistons on the fronts, and take ddifferent type (and of course - 2 different sized) dampeners, too. I can't remember what year they changed....ummmm...mayb 89.

The 951 (non-S) were smaller. In fact the REAR pads from my GT brake upgrade are the same one's that fit the FRONT of my 951!

All 944's had an available package called M030 - this would upgrade a 944 to S4 calipers.

Again, that may be what a 944 guy calls "big reds". Caveat Emptor.

My 90GT calipers have stickers, not raised letters. Change happened either 89 or 90.
A quick way to tell is to measure the length of the mounting hole. Big "Reds" are longer.

Funny that! My 1990 GT has the raised letters on the fronts, but stickers on the rears...

Mine was registered on the 8th Jan 90, so I guess it must be a Sep-early Dec 1989 built... It has PSD and all that, so it is 1990 MY, but it was one of the first 1990 GTs... Not bothered at all by the difference...

I think the 944 guys like to upgrade their brakes to S4 Brembos...just like how we like to upgrade our brakes to GTS Big reds or 993-6 TT brakes...same concept

Yeah the seller was totally in good faith, so no issues and I got them at a reasonable price even for S4 brakes. So I guess I'll just sell them again or mount them to the 85. Oh wait, an 85 needs all sorts of crap to do it ... nevermind

IIRC...

M030 was only available as a factory option on:
All MY 968's
1988 944 Turbo S
1989–1991 944 Turbo (EURO's only after 1989)
1989–1991 944 S2

Tho...it HAS been retrofitted to MANY of the earlier cars. My '87 951 has the oversized M030 sway bar, and the smaller 4-pod brembo's...but as I stated above - they are not as big as the later S4's.
