Default how to remove/replace rear "PORSCHE" decal

I have my new Decal in hand, wondering how to best remove the old one and replace it. Give me the rundown on the whole process, what say you oh great ones?

Ben... check this thread : Can I see your rear end?
Comment #4, for pics of my decal job. Are you doing
something like that ?

I used a palette knife, nylon pot scrubber & alcohol
to remove old decal & clean the surface. Carefully.

Then I 'floated' the decal letters into the embossed positions.

G'luck.

Use a heatgun or even a blowdryer with a heat setting. Just warm them up and they peel right off I just did it Monday on mine. Good luck

What Darkside said, but also have some denatured alcohol with which to clean the surface before installation. I also found an xacto knife helpful to hold the letters and move them around until I got them aligned properly in place.

Maybe some of the techniques I used when deleting my pinstripe will help. Basically, get the plastic film off with a heatgun then use an appropriate paint-safe solvent to get the adhesive off.

That sucked! I would rate that right up there with having a root canal. The letters are so long and narrow and when your remove them from the backing they want to curl up on themselves like a busted tape measure. ARgggh. This job is tedious... akin to picking fly $hit out of black pepper with boxing gloves on.

Egads. I hate to hear that Ben. I have decals in hand ready to go in the next week or two. I did a pretty lousy job putting address numbers on my mailbox, I am now AFRAID of doing my Porsche 928S decals....

I can eat cake (today is my birthday!!!!).

I can go slow... all work done on my car takes 4x as long as it should.

Labor of love, yes, there is love!

Thinking about the end result, well, you haven't seen my mailbox.....

Thanks Andrew.

I treated myself to a 928 drive to work this morning. Didn't take it up to 100 or anything but it was enjoyable.

I'm back in the station wagon this afternoon though. Yahhhn.

When you put decals on your car, Wet the car with water that has about 2 drops of soap in 2 quarts of water. Float the decal where you want it and work the water out with a soft squeegee. 3M makes them. you can then warm the decal with a hair dryer to help it set. Press on with your fingers. Do not wash the car for 24 hours.
All the water does is allow you to reposition the decals where you want them without having to get it perfect on the first shot. This is how the pros do it, and I learned by watching a pro.
