Heh, I wish that thread would quietly fall off the front page.

Anyway, the pistons are 36 and 44mm. There is a differnce btween 88 and 89+. I'm drawing a blank hunting for brembo caliper rebuild kits for S4+, although I can find them for BMW, etc.,

BUT, let's start with this link.

That above link I thought might be promising, is not terribly helpful. The PNs match up the full rebuld kits with pistons, and the costs for the seals and boots make it about $100 per caliper.

So it breaks down like this on piston size:

86.5 early 87
87-88
89-95

Jim Page has a shelf full of calipers. All labelled what year they came off - I'll see if I can measure them tonight after work and see if I can figure something out.

YOU F*CKING ROCK!!!

Off to Sears to buy that dial caliper so I can accuratly measure mine tonight. Harbor Freight is across town, I took the 928 today and it's raining. I installed the 997 18" wheels last night. That car was a handful in the wet before, I have no reason to think it will be better with wider tires.

Let me know how it goes as I think I'll want to do this too. The only thing is I don't see a 36/44 kit. But maybe they can put one together?

Well, not exactly. Unless I'm real mixed up, 88 and 89-on are both 36 and 44 mm pistons in the front, so there must be a difference in the seal or boot.

PET - caliper repair kits
36mm 951.351.919.01 (-88)
36mm 951.352.929.10 (89-)

44mm 928.351.919.01 (-88)
44mm 928.951.919.10 (89-)

I saw a report of somebody rebuilding some 88 951 brembos, which are 36 and 44mm, and he kept getting boots that didn't fit.

It looks like unless the seals are leaking, replacement isn't advised according to the latest link. However, I thought if they become brittle, they may not leak but the pistons will hang. At least that's my experience with motorcycle brakes.

They don't show a 36mm/44mm kit.

Not sure where this info came from, but I was told pistons hanging up is more due to the dust seal hardening up more than a seal going bad.

Maybe a phone call to Zeckhausen would be helpful.

Yeah, as I was saying, my experience is with motorcycle calipers without dust boots, where the seals were the issue.

FYI... I found this on StopTech.com Could be promising. If the link doesn't work just follow their website to Rebuild kits. Seal & Dust Boot kits are $50. No affiliation.

I poked around the MY bulletins. 88 has a seal and "scraper". Darien, that is what you show - NO BOOT - in the pics of your calipers. 89+ has the same seal, but has a fat dust boot with a clip replacing the simpler scraper. The 89+ piston is cut in at the leading edge to receive the smaller inner diameter of the fat dust boot. So, you can't just order a 36/44 mm Brembo kit. According to the bulletins, the earlier parts were being phased out to be replaced by the later ones, even for spare part rebuilding. So, the picture Andrew shows from stoptech is the 89+ seal and boot. YOU WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE PISTONS TO USE THAT BOOT. Hence, that is why the rebuild kit is sold with the pistions. So, you need a kit with the earlier scraper.

Bill-
You are a wealth of information.

So, if I may paraphrase, 89+ calipers can use the seal & dust boot kit like the one from StopTech fro about $50; Pre-89 will need piston, seal, & dust boot for about $150. Correct?
