Here is a side view for your planning needs.
I have found that replacing the cat with a x-pipe really makes for some beautiful exhaust notes. I put the x-pipe on my 86.5 and with the RMB was rather LOUD and I got a lot of exhaust popping on deceleration, so I put the rear muffler back on. I didn't get any popping at all with the early stock exhaust on the '86.
