Default Any suggestions on an 83S slipping auto

Besides not driving it.

1st gear is fine. All gears shift very crisp.

In 2nd or 3rd (maybe 3rd and 4th) if I floor it, it shutters a little bit (lack of a better description) and seems to slip very slightly. Hard to tell.

Its worse when cold.

This just started happening a few days ago, but it has always shuttered a tiny amount since I bought it 8 mo ago. Then it would shutter/vibrate a little, when cold, then that would go away when warmed up. Seems like its getting worse.

Any suggestions ??

I am mechanically inclined, but have never worked on an auto trans before. I have rebuilt a few manual gear boxes though.

did you check the fluid level?

Not an easy job, sure you will find a write up here somewhere

PM Steve Catano (scatano - I think). He's our resident auto trans expert and can probably give you some insight (assuming your fluid level is good).

Cool

Do the fluid check as per Owners, Manual instructions as opposed to crawling under a cold sHARk with a rag and a flashlight.
Till you bond with your sHARk:
Take it to a shop and have a drain/flush/filter service done. Helps sometimes.
There is a hideaway 'T' handle adjuster that will give you more operating pressure/harder shifts.
I don't think the tranny is your problem though.
See if there is a 928 'bunch in your area. If one or more is a wrench buy beer and a lunch as a trade for assist on :
1. The dreaded crank walk.
2. Tranny mounts.
3. Torque Tube issues.
4. Fuel system issues, injectors, Fuel Pressure Regulator(s) -I THINK there are two on yours, could be wrong.
Steve C. is indeed the tranny Guru and if you give him accurate info he should be able to help.
You lurking Steve?
5. Ignition...wires/cap/rotor/coil issues.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Check previous threads by Tony and myself. We just installed the piston/ spring kit for the 2-3 flare on both Sharks. It's an easy install, although with the SC torque's it still flares a little at high rpm. Mine was flaring at any speed/rpm prior to the kit install, it now shifts firm

I had the tranny slipping in my Ford. I used some Lucas tranny treatment and it runs better than ever.

"I did check the fluid about 2 mo ago, but I will check it again."

Was it slipping then?
