Dave - Be sure you remind Ketchmi that you only want ONE seat recovered, so he doesn't quote you the price I paid for two.
Thanks for the compliment. They really are very comfortable and look great in real life! I just got so tired of the worn areas on the outside bolsters.

This really looks incredible! Did they use the GAAH leather that comes dyed in Porsche colors? How does the cost compare to buying GAAH covers and having them installed?
Either way, I get the impression that Utah is well on its way to becoming the best kept secret for 928 restoration...

You know, I'd have to refer you to Dave Lomas. I can't remember the exact source of the leather. I know we looked at a number of sample books, and I chose the one that best matched my rear seats. It might have actually been out of a Mercedes book. Can't remember exactly.
The cost was:
$1,200 for the new leather (2 seats)
$600 for install. This included removing the seats, having the leather guy do the recovering, and re-installing the seats.
These seats actually have leather piping and rears. I'm not sure, but I think factory piping was vinyl, and the rears might have also been vinyl. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Most standard USA 928's had leather seats with "leatherette" "Belt"...of course options allowed you to get the belt in leather and different colors.
Very nice looking....I was thinking about the same thing for my 928....I looked through the Gahh book and found that Champagne II (925) matches my champagne leather the closest.... Its in the shop right now getting the drivers bolster replaced, a new leather "belt" and the rest of the seat reconditioned-redyed! It should be done tomorrow night or Thursday!! I can't wait to see it!

Bigs,
your interior looks great, love the supple leather look. I am also planning on changing out the leather in my S4 later this summer. The price is excellent, GaHH would cost about $1600 just for the leathers, not installation or shipping included. Did you just choose a local installer or did you actually have David Lomas install it?
Brian,
Let me know how your car turns out. When you say redye are you referring to the permanent painted coating (like Leatherique) or are you actually dyeing the leather by having the color penetrated?

I guess I am the odd man out. I think the craftsmanship looks bad. They shouldn't have all of those wrinkles? It doesn't look like the leather was pulled tight or else maybe it stretched? No offense intended, I just am not seeing what the others are seeing I guess.

I wasn't aware of that option. I have been in older Maseratis with really supple leather but they had folds instead of wrinkles. Nice to keep it as original as possible.

Turns out the Motorsport guys had just recently discovered an excellent leather man in Salt Lake City with whom they had established a relationship, so I just dropped the car off at Motorsport, and they took care of getting everything done. Dave removed and re-installed the seats (along with some other mechanical spiff-ups) and his leather person did the re-skinning of the seats.
My car originally came with the "supple leather" option. I don't think "supple leather" is any different from any other kind of leather - just in the way it's fitted. It's a looser fit with some loose pleats as you see in Dave's pics.

The shop that is doing the work uses ColorGlo dyes....which are a water based dye very similar to Leatherique.....I took lots of before pictures and can't wait to pick it up when its done. Hopefully tonight...or tomorrow at the latest...I will post before-after pics so everyone can see the difference....
Has you 87 arrived yet? You will need to do a similar repair to your drivers seat as well.... You got a very nice 928 5 speed!!!

I have lusted after sport seats for quite a while, and found a 944/911 set on a shelf at Musante in CT. I finally got them tolook into the ownership of the seats and picked them up. Cost $800 but needed two new switches, and sold my old 928 seats for $700. I know they're not 928 seats, but my butt doesn't know and I really like them.
I gave up on finding real 928 sport seats that wouldn't need to be redone.
p.s. they didn't add any headroom vs. the comfort seats.

bigs, congrats on the new loungers. They certainly look a lot better that those temporary black seats
. Be careful with how much rope you give Dave, racing season is fast approaching and if his car isn't done... So what's next? Supercharge?
Carl, I like the sport seats too. Do they sit lower than the original 928 seats? I've considered replacing mine to gain some head room (I'm 6'3" tall), but can't seem to justify the cost. You seemed to do it right ($100 net expenditure!).
Sooo much to spend all my money on: seats, dash/pod, notta-X-pipe, motor mounts, new A/C, supercharger... I don't know where to start.
