I am just finishing the same thing except with a 12 sub. The only difference is I did not make a box. I used the spare well as the box by installing a rubber weather stripping to the bottom of the 3/4 plywood and redid the hold down clamps. It works very well, so do not build a box just a shelf.

That's a darn good idea, Bob!

I'm thinkin' that the downside to any raising of the overall carpet height is that the cargo cover hard point attachments are then no longer protruding above the carpet height.
