Thanks for the template Red.....made my own using your basic measurements and some tools I had around the house.

3/4 particle board, a few angle cuts, one 10" kicker sub (4 ohm).. some wire connectors etc..and a can of rough black paint with white fleck...

and now I have some nice bass in addition to my three piece MB quarts in the doors, blau toronto head unit, alpine amp, and the stocker rear speakers....

Full surround and kicking.....

What's it look like with the carpet in place?

 

Like this........I tried to get the best angle but the carpet only comes up like a inch or so..little bit less actually...and you can't really tell there is something underneath. I will probably get a grill for the sub just incase I forget and put something heavy there...

Looks pretty good.

I've been wondering how to do something similar with a grilled 10" that would result in a carpet with no bump at all.

 

Problem I ran in to is depth. This one was 5 3/4 deep..sub was 5 inches...smallest depth sub I could find was just a bit under 5..so there will be some stick up no matter what just to accommodat the speaker....

You could always recess the sub a bit into the face of the box but I don't think it will prevent the bump.

How does the carpet handle the vibration from the sub at higher volume? I had to put angled sides on mine to lift the carpet above the sub.

 

Tom: This looks very nice! But how can you even hear your stereo with that loud exhaust on your car? Or has it been muffled since I heard it at Sharks in the Hood?

I have just completed a "rear audio shelf" system. It's comprised of a covered sub box on left, large covered amp area on right. Fully upholstered and uses existing trunk hard points with no drilling holes, or screwing anything down. The whole unit bolts securely in place in just 10 minutes.

It sort of looks like this, but without the 3-pce rim for a sub grill, or the open amps.



I should have some good pics tomorrow. (That is if I can extricate myself from dinner with the wife’s friends)

That's why I needed the sub...to counter all the exhaust noise

Actually..probably will be putting a muffler somewhere in the system to tone it down just a bit ...so many things to do..so little time

Tom is totally right about sub dept.

And to add insult to injury, there is the spare tire hold down braket on the floor of the tire well. It is an inch tall, and right in the middle of the tire well were the center of the subwoofer would be. This little bracket limits the usable depth atleast another inch. The box can go a bit wider to maintain the same interior volume, (very important to be inside subwoofer charted volume limits) but most the good subwoofers are just plain DEEP and need a minimum 1 inch from their back to the bottom of the sub box floor.

I haven't had it cranked yet..but will probably put a grill over the subwoofer to protect it...even so I bet the air that the sub moves will move the carpet a bit ..

To make the carpet surface look more even, consider a layer of 1" foam, cut to fit around the "protrusion" where the speaker box sits a little high. The carpet will appear to be flat, and you may appreciate a little extra sound deadening. Alternately, stack layers of carpet pad (off the roll at Home Depot) to make up the height difference.
