Default Interior Door Lock Mechanism Repair

Guys,

I have to fix my driver's side inside door lock - the piece with the threaded rod that the lock **** screws on to. Somehow, the threaded rod snapped off, leaving the **** lying on the floor while it was parked.

Has anybody done this job? Is it gonna be a real pain? The workshop manual didn't mention it (or I couldn't find it).

Thanks for the help.

I just repaired mine last night by drilling a hole at the broken stud location and putting a short 10x24 machine screw in it. It works fine.

On a related note, how do these things come off when they aren't broken? Recently I was removing my door panels and I couldn't get those ***** off. I removed the screw that holds it on and tried prying the **** off but it didn't budge. I was afraid I would break it so I left it in place and worked around it.

Rod,

Did you drill it out and tap the hole or just use a sheet metal screw right into that square block the lock **** fits on?

Drilled and tapped it. I don't think sheet metal screws would be a good idea. It's too thick to get a good thread that way.
