Default Flat dish rims: polish or re-anodize

Going to drop the stock rims from my '85 off for refinishing next week & still am unsure what I want to do. Polished (or chromed) flats look great, especially on bright color cars.

My car is gold with dark brown interior, and the wheels were originally the gold finish. I really like the way it looks on a gold car... very nice! The sheen is "soft" and gives a very unique look to the car.

I found a place in Detroit that can replicate the original finish, and/or different shades of shine. I could go anywhere from "gold chrome" to "gold flat" or stay original.

I'd love to hear what you think of the gold finish vs. polished - especially on a gold car. And if anyone has any photos, please post them so I can get an idea which looks better!

Don't do a very shiny gold... they will get stolen and put on a late 80's Cadillac.

There might still be some jpegs of polished, chromed, powder coated wheels imbedded
in a similar post deep in the archives.
Or are you just trolling for fresh flicks/

Mine are chromed, like them more than polished.

Sorry I can't post. Computer is on fritz.

There are some really cool shades of bronze and copper available as anodize colors, which I think would look sharp. A shiny gold would probably look a little a little dated, but I could be wrong!

I once had a metallic burgundy Yo Eddy Team Fat Chance mountain bike, and I polished the cranks, handlebar, seatpost and hubs, then had the whole lot anodized in gold. The effect was super hype! Too hype, in fact, and the bike was stolen within a month. I still dream about it.

ok Mel, I guess you are far enough away for me to have an IDENTICAL shark!! (except for the trans)

I love the way the gold rims look on your car! I was all set to polish those babies until I saw your post & loved how nice a good set of gold rims looked! Mine are horribly faded, so anything will be a drastic improvement!

oh, and I'm ALWAYS trolling for fresh pictures of nice sharks!

Be careful if you polish them...my flat's are polished...but they are ALOT of work to keep shiney....it seems about two washings is all it takes to start hazing them to the point they get dull & I coat them with rejex every time I polish them!

Well Ben I have photos of your wheels on their original Weissgoldmetallic '86 that I took them off of - but they're on my home computer and not here. Also, in the pics they and the car are pretty dirty. I'll bring them in and post them tomorrow.

I.M.O... the "match" of the two is very nice - you can tell that the soft-golden anodizing was made especially for the gold car. Was it a seperate option code, I wonder? It's pretty unique in the automotive world.

I would like to see that finish in as-new condition, as I only had them in "used and dirty" and then I put the 18" Cup wheels on the car and sold it. Now I'm wondering how freakin' cool the Cups would've looked in that finish...

Heres a larger version of the pic in my avatar. The late afternoon sun setting behind the car helped.

Love it!
Mel, what are you using for centercaps? Did you buy those or paint the factory ones?
