![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Has anyone tried to install one of those sharky (like in the new bimmers) radio antennas?
I am looking to replace my aero antenna, and i tought that the BMW style would look great on a 928...

I have had the same thoughts. I will change to that style if I ever get my car re-painted. Although if done correctly you could probably get away with just some sealer/touch up paint.

There is a lot of those euro shark-fin antennas on ebay, i will get one and see how it fits (which i am pretty sure will).
That would give the car a more "modern" look (anyway, a lot of people thinks the car is an '05 or something )
I am just wondering if someone have tried to do so...

I am sure there are some AM/FM knock-offs on eBay.

me has to try ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
With modern receivers, FM reception is pretty good, not depending on your antenna that much. I am pretty sure the long antenna would only benefit AM reception..
My wife broke the antenna in our infiniti, the radio worked OK (even in AM) without the antenna mast...
I have to dig in a little, anyways to be 100% sure.
Besides functionality, what do you think of the looks?

Here's mine, and the link to the source.

I clear coated mine to match the car. The reception is not the best, but that may be my fault in installation.

Rod,
In your pictures it looks like you have the antenna mounted on the hatch. The roof mounted antennas that came on the '89 and later cars is mounted on the roof, forward of the hatch. Did you have to do anything special with the wiring of your antenna, since it moves with the hatch opening and closing and also has to pass into the front of the car somewhere?

I replaced the cell phone antenna with the fin so that I didn't need to cut any additional holes. I ran the wire in the same place that the cell phone antenna wire used.
It works, but I'm ecstatic about the reception, but I had to replace my windshield with a non-antenna type and I don't really like the look of most antennas.

I have ben wanting to do this since the new Bimmer 7 -series hit the road. I am not sure what is needed to connect the fin to the existing antennae.
