Default Heater Fan Pos. 1, 2 Inop

Is this a burnt item on the motor or controller?

H... mine was the resister pack, in the duct
under the cowl. Fairly easy to replace.

G'luck.

Heinrich try another (thermo bi-metal) switch 928 618 101 01 the one inside the blower ducting under the hood base of windshield. As a test you can unplug the plug on the outside of the ducting and try a different "Resistor Pack" but only briefly as it will overheat if not cooled by the air from the blower. Some engineer had a lot of fun with this one

If you replace the resistor pack, first make sure that the blower motor is ok. Same thing happened to mine, so I replaced the resistor pack, it blew again. What I learned what that when my fan switch was in poistion 0 (low speed NOT off) the fan was not turning (age and gunk) and cause the 500 ohm resistor to burn up and break.. Back to square 1. Since then I have rewired my fan switch so that position 0 is OFF but I still get some air flow while the car is moving.

At about $80 - $100 these things are not cheap.

Thank you Nick, JimB, Macreel, excellent, and quick advice Nick, I think you are spot-on!! My motor has been noisy a LONG time and I have been too lazy to clean it. So ....... consequences. Got a new blower ... will endeavour to get a new resistor too.

Heinrich... I have an old, used (refurbished, functional)
resister pack you're welcome to sub for yours to
see if positions 1 & 2 come alive.

Let me know (before you send your hard-earned $$$
to Jim).

G'luck.

Hi Heinrich, wyatit, remove the blower assembly from the car and reseal the blower where it comes out of the fire wall just above the fuse panel., if its not leaking now it will, I use the 3M black strip caulk just add to what is already there also you can replace the fresh air vacuum pot while you have it apart, good luck, Stan
