Default AFM adjustment

I got a used afm from a running car and someone for some reason turned the adjustment all the way one direction. Is this gonna be hard to figure out where it needs to be? 86.5 Thanks.

Hi
The pot should have no end stops, but it doesn't like being screwed past the end of the track.

Measure between pin 6 and case, and turn the pot to get a resistance of 300 ohms. Try anticlockwise first. The pot is 20 turns, end to end.

If you don't have a multimeter, ask a friend :-)

The best way to adjust an AFM is with the use of a gas analyzer and monitoring
the CO level. The AFM spring is adjusted for a CO of about 1.5% at about 2000
RPMs, with the engine warm & O2 sensor disconnected. The throttle response
of the engine can be improved by tweaking the position of the thick-film wiper
arm & the spring tension.

Hi Loren,
An 86.5 has a hot wire MAF, not a barn door type... :-)

"An 86.5 has a hot wire MAF, not a barn door type.."

Didn't say that, did I?

The poster posted AFM which is NOT the same as a MAF which MANY continually
confuse and thus the responding post was based on what was posted, i.e. an AFM.

Many need to CORRECTLY use the appropriate terms.

Check here ( www.systemsc.com/glossary.htm ) when in doubt about appropriate terms.

Furthermore, whether it's an AFM or MAF (if adjustable), both need to
be set properly with a CO meter!
