ECU connector problem

Default ECU connector problem

Any tricks reattaching the connector back into the ECU computers? I was going to pull the computers and install chips but then decided to wait.

I unhooked the connector and it seems like I have in right (The fastener clamps) but the now the car will not start.

And YES I did unhook the battery before starting to unhook the ECU.

Ruh Roh! Did u bend any contacts when u plugged it back? U may need to clean the metal contacts and reattach. Check your fuses. Like a large scale computer room that has huindreds of computers running 24/7 with no problems, then a power spike and half of them don't come back.

The connectors have a hook on the bottom. You need to hook the bottom part of the connector into the module housing and then rotate the connector about the base and then use the little metal lock to clamp it tightly.

Try removing the connectors, look to be sure that none of the blades on the module are bent or any of the female ends in the connector itself cam loose and got pushed in.

It looks like the Ecu connector is missing some plugs, Is this right???

I checked all the fuses, All fine.

As you see from the diagram, there are several positions where there are no connect.

The photo is fuzzy, but you seem to have more empty spots than shown in Rich's diagram.

How does the connector connect with the wire harness? On the ezk it seems to be pulling off.

JB,

There are two different types of EZK connection for early 1987 928s. The earliest types use the "latch" type that was used with earlier L-Jet and LHs - the base if the connector hooks in and the top of the connector just "locks" into place as the connector is rotated all the way into place.

Later in '87 the EZK connector attache changed to the same type that the LH connector uses. This is a "positive" type clamp that requires a locking pin mechanism to open and close to hold the connector in place - see the attached diagram that shows the later type locking type mechanism.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Hi on your car there are 2 different ecu plugs they will only fit on one of their respective connectors if you look at the end futhest away from the wire budle you will see how it has a slightly different cutout to fit into its respective ecu , the tip of the plug must be fitted into the ecu before closing it down to the latching mechanisim. Before doing anything you should make absolutly shure that you do not have any bent pins in the ecu, if find any pins that are not perfectly straight you need to bend them back , also check the connector for female sockets that might have been pushed out of the connector you will need to possibly open up the cover of the connector to see if you have a pushed pin

Rich, on my computer wire harness there is a three position femail plug (with two connectors inside), It has a bot 10 inches of wire fron the ESK, LH wire harness junction back behind the computers. Pulling the computers this weekend I found this. It does not seem to be attached to anything.....I looked in the wiring diagram manuals and couldn't figure out what it was? It is the one on the top of the LH frame, Any ideas?

Hi that extra wire with the black connector is to reset the computer so the engine will run on lo octane fuel, I believe that there is a plug that is installed to do the deed
