Question ISO: Good shape 85 Euro 5sp tranny...

I have struggled with what to do. My 84 is rapidly declining. The synchros are wasted for 2nd gear. The shifter wants to pull to the left. Downshifting to 2nd is next to impossible and... it's not even a LSD!!

So, thanks to rennlist, I guess Ill go to the best and brightest!!!

Anyone have an 85MY 5sp tranny thats in good shape. Im hopeing to throw a lsd in also. Better yet, anyone have an opinion on what would be a better rebuild or replacement option?

I heard through the grapevine Sterling had one!! I was hoping to hear from at least Rixter and Sterling. Then if any one had one they really really wanted to give away... I was hoping they would speak up also!! lol.

Im still hoping to hear from Sterling.

Rixter, Im calling at lunch!

Jyoon, phew, $2500 is up there!! Lets talk about that swap. See what Sterling needs too.

verify this, but i think you need the torque tube as well if you convert to an 85 box. I cant remember, its been so long since i did what you are talking about. but, i feel your pain. (and hear your grind) Its going to cost you more on the labor of the rebuild and parts than it will to get the right box you want. go for it!

Sterling, a GT tranny is geared exactly the same as a Euro and a GTS is slightly lower due to the 1.4583 lay shaft in place of the 83+Euro/GT's 1.4545.
