Default Interior Dying Questions

Has anyone dyed their interiors? Vinyl and leather? I am thinking about using leatherique to change the color of my dash to grey from black. I was curious how well the vinyl takes the dye? And does it look fake and painted afterwards.

I have never used Leatherique, but I would recommend SEM dyes for your dash. Just be sure to specify that a de-glossing agent be included in the formua. You can have SEM send you the formula and take it to an auto paint store in your area to have it mixed. I did my factory NOS dash over and my steering wheel and some other pieces, and am happy, except for the above caution. The steering wheel has held up particularly well as has the dash and pod.

I recently ordered some dye from leatherique in classic grey - However, the color they sent was way off. I called them, and they asked me to return the non-matching dye with an original leather swatch so they can match the color. We'll see how well that turns out.

Only concern is that the dye seems to be a bit more shiny than the original leather (I'll ask them to change that), and it seems a little thick - hope it won't leave a vinyl feel afterwards.

Otherwise it seems easy to work with. I am fixing a small tear in my drivers seat side bolster, and plan to redo front seats, upper door panels including door openers and speaker grilles, and the upper door cover - once I have the matching dye.

I expect the interior to look almost like new afterwards.

I ordered the Leatherique "rejevinator" & "Pristine clean" system for my seats and it worked, but not as well as I expected. Of course, I have the dark brown leather interior & how do you know if it is clean? The seats did get softer, though.

I also am considering changing the color of my seats after a small repair on the driver's side. They are just too nice to recover. I'd like to go lighter (tan), and am very concerned about putting a light dye on a currently dark piece... although I am told it is possible.

I'm also curious about anyone's results using any re-dye system.

Nicole, I had this company make my classic grey color - perfect match, absolutely perfect. All in shine. I recolored some dark blue leather to grey. I was totally amazed...

I've used both Leatherique and Color Plus products. (I've dyed 4-5 sets of seats, including a set of Sport seats I've changed from dark brown to silver grey). I prefer the Color Plus items, and I think they are less expensive as well. Joanne Price at Color Plus is excellent to work with and responsive if the color isn't right (had that experience with some burgundy dye).
