Feedback on 928 International Parts
#32
Ordered a lot of parts and made a lot of calls for advice from both 928Intl and 928spec. (Not because my shark is hurtin but because it is like new NOW) Both have great service and small town like friendly attittudes. They both stand behind their sales and make owning the coolest car on the road easier.

I think most of us can guess who one of the negatives is...
I've never had a problem with them, but the biggest thing I ordered was a brake master cylinder. Help on the phone has always been free, friendly, and accurate.

If I had problems they took care of their mistake right away, they have great knowledge. For some reason parts arrive quicker coming from the east coast to the midwest, so 928 Spec has been getting orders lately, both are top notch, friendly and helpful. As for Devek, they were great too, but I never spent as much $ with them on the later cars than I did with the first one.

My only complaint is their website. They should have similar all inclusive parts list up for browsing like 928 Specialists has. They have a lot online but could have more. Pictures of the parts on their site is great resourse and makes it easier for explaining whats what in forums like this.

This is a pretty dumb poll, even if you're a newbie. Nice introduction to the community by starting off with a vote of mistrust.
On the matter of websites I agree with Erkka btw. The Devek site even sort of gives the illusion they're out of business.

without 928 Intl (see, Bigs, you needn't write "international")
I wouldn't be driving my 928... because Mark A. sold it to me.
And they have since sold me bunches of parts. Good sales
gimmick, eh?
Excellent crew: Jim, Tom, Renee', Pichai, Frank, Mark, of
course (occasionally his Dad & son), et al.
May they be around as long as my shark is (yours, too).
G'luck

Mark, Tom, Jim and the rest of the 928intl gang rock!!! If it wasn't for them my car would never be in one piece. The customer service and advice is exceptional. I have literally converted my 79 MY into an 88/89 S4 complete with interior, motor, suspension/brakes you name it and it has been all purchased through these great guys. Most of my parts are used because I am on a budget and with 4 boys under 8 I have to plan for colledge. You can't go wrong.

Thanks Guys!!!
Thanks everyone for the great information. I do have two things I want to say.
1) I apologize about putting this question out there as a poll. I didn't mean to insinuate anything negative about 928 International. I have purchased several small items from them with no problems. My concern is the anticipation of spending over $4000 on a mail order part.
2) I'm glad to be a part of such a responsive community of car owners/lovers. Thanks all.
To answer some of your questions: I purchased my 928 s4 as birthday present to myself last October. I drove it about 3 weeks (fell in love), then took it to the dealer to have it looked over. They gave me some recommendations, and I took most of their advice. I had the steering rack, the timing belt, the water pump, the oil pump a few pulleys, and gears replaced. I thought I was good to go. By the way, the car is beautiful. I'll try to attach a pic. I drove it for about 2 months(it was in the shop for 3 weeks), then 2 weeks ago tragedy struck. The car started vibrating badly, then about 2 blocks from home (I live in Washington DC), it died on me. The valves started clacking, then it just died. I tried to start it, but nothing but heavy white smoke came from the tail pipe. To make a long story short, 2 spark plugs had exploded, and who knows what else was an issue inside the engine. My mechanic (very dependable Porsche mechanic) suggested that instead of digging any deeper, I should consider getting another engine and having it rebuilt. That's where I am right now. Thanks bunches everyone. Wish me luck. I'm keeping the car.

All quite understandable ..... sorry to hear of your troubles, especially with an engine that is normally near bullet-proof.
You may well need a new engine - but I would take a long and hard look at the current engine to determine what EXACTLY went wrong, especially in light of the recent preventative maintenance you had contracted to a Dealer ..... reread 'preventative'. Coincidence can be a strange thing ...
Do some easy checks, like lift the air tubes and look into the breather holes of the cam covers: Is there a 1" wide timing belt looking back at you? .... or a shredded mess? Was there a huge coolant loss, or any signs of overheating? Is there coolant in the oil? Is there oil in the sump?, ....?
This massive failure may have been due to natural causes and was unpredictable; however, in light of the recent work performed, I would do some thorough checking prior to contracting further work.
You may end up with a financial partner in facing the repair bill, depending on what your investigation reveals.
BTW - sharp looking car: keep your wheel locks on .. our pal 'Watercooler' is on the hunt for a set of RS goodies ..

From what I understand - they are no longer 'specializing' in sharks. They seem to be concentrating on servicing P-cars with the engines in the WRONG end!
If they still bother to visit the 928 R'list section - I'm sure Marc or Susan will chime in.
