Default Convert your auto to a 5 speed???

In November, my '88 5 speed 928 S4 with 72K miles was totaled on the way to Virginia Int'l track for a Drivers Ed event. I bought the car from the insurance company and have dismantled it. Now - for YOUR opportunity!!
I removed everything associated with the drive train that wasn't damaged (left rear wheel/axle was). Thus, I have nearly everything that would be needed for a transectomy. Trans/Diff, torque tube with shifting rod, pedals, shifter and OE shifter ****, clutch master & blue hose(2K miles on these), clutch, pressure plate, etc. There are some things you'd probably want to replace WYAIT, like clutch plate. (You will need new pilot bearing, shifter ball cup, bushings for where the shifter attaches to the shifting rod mechanism, and the back up light switch on the differential are all I can remember). The differential IS NOT Limited Slip.
I did not drive the car at all after the accident. The transmission shifted well and operated smoothly 1 minute before the car was hit. It still seems to shift well, and the two axle stubs turn smoothly when the torque drive spline is turned. It has essentially new Mobil 1 gear lube in it.
I will sell this between now and April 5th. Shipping/crating charges will be extra (personal pickup is fine). I will sell it to the first offer I receive of $2,500, holding it for 1 week until a 20% deposit is received. If I do not receive that offer, I will sell it to the highest offer I receive on or before April 5th, with minimum reserve st at $1,200. This will be a silent auction, so only bid what the system is worth to you. Only bids by e-mail will be promptly received and acknowledged. Make the title of the e-mail "5 speed Transmission sale" please, so I can keep them organized. THANKS for any interest, and best wishes.
Drive safely, and keep from getting hit by trucks!!!

Gary............would you know if a limited slip diff could be fitted (as in mine) and if so would you sell the 'package' sans diff?

Malcom,
By my understanding from Jim Bailey, the 40% LSD's are all interchangeable among 5 speeds, but the automatic LSD IS NOT interchangeable with the 5 speed ones. Thus - I don't think you can use yours with a 5 speed (there is interest in automatics with LSD's that are for sale, however).

Gary,
One component required for this tempting 'transectomy' IIRC, is the section of firewall that the MC etc attaches to: this is to be skin grafted into the recipient auto. I suspect it is part of your package that escaped the descriptive.

A definitive list of parts from the donar car is a primary must to ensure the parts availabilty. A close secondary consideration has to be the parts that make sense to install new..........not x amount of years old.

Mechanical apditude may also be a consideration with the length of ones winter!!! So the once promising deal potentially becomes $3X + spanner time!!!

Hi dont forget the instument pod gauges you will need to remove the tach to get rid of the P<R<N<D<3>2and also the console needs to be changed where the shifter goes and possibly the wire harness in the spare tire well, as well as the C/Control cut off on top of the clutch pedal assy, and the trans crossmember will need to be swapped out auto VS stick are different, there might be more???? Just a reminder that today is the 4th of April, and I asked for anyone who is interested to submit their best offer by April 5th.
Cheers,
