OIL FILLER MESH TWEAK ??
Hi all
I heard somewhere that if you add another mesh filter to the Oil filler on the front of a 16 Valve engine it will cut down the oil use of the engine ??
I think I read that the mesh from a frying pan anti spatter guard is perfect for this...
Well I now have 2 brand new mesh frying pan guards to cut up but cannot quite figure out how etc....is the original Porsche filter removed ? or just added to ?
Has anyone done this and has anyone got any pictures or diagrams please ?
I have searched here but cannot find anything.
All the best Brett

I put some thin aluminum flashing around the mesh bucket, to help deflect some of the oil that comes in the side hose -- a suggestion I got from Carl Fausett. It's safety-wired around the outside of the mesh. It made a big difference, but I think I'm going to get his breather setup anyway.

The idea came from a UK list. Basically you fill the existing oil filler with folded up stainless steel mesh. The theory is that it encourages the oil that is blown up from the motor to condense and drip back into the motor instead of going into the inlet manifold and either settling there or being burnt in the motor.
People who have tried it say that it reduces the amount of oil used at high revs, certainly cheap enough to try it.

Anything which prevents oil from geting into intake is good idea as long as it does not block fumes too much and do not release material into circulation.

Did you put the mesh UNDER as well or just around the mesh ?? and did you put any crumpled INSIDE as well ??

No mesh -- just a flat piece of very thin aluminum sheet wrapped about 60% of the way around the existing screen, so that oil can't blow straight through.
