Default Adding mirror

Has anyone installed a passenger side mirror on a non-mirror door? Are the supports in there? Under the door skin? Just cut the same holes as the driver side?
Just can't get used to driving without a mirror over there.....

Sorry I don't have an answer but I would guess that the supports are not there. IIRC the tightening bracket is welded on the skin. You may have some work to do in a tiny space but again I don't really know.

you will need 2 parts for sure
92853123503 threaded piece
N 0132951 tension sleeve
these are generally not already installed on non mirror cars
parts 9 and 10

I'll trade you as well, I'd prefer my 77 not have a pass mirror

The required bracket is NOT in the door no reason for it to be there if they did not punch out the holes for the mirror they would not add the bracket...

generally true, but I have seen 2, including a local, that have the bar already in and just needed the hole and 2 small pieces

either way... I'd be happy to swap you doors or assist in getting you the correct parts to do this IF YOU INSIST on adding to your current door

To those that offered door swaps...thanks but I don't think you would want my door . This is for the cabrio so the entire window frame area has been lopped off and capped.
Looking in there with a flashlight... it appears the bar is there but maybe just not the two small pcs. As part of the pre-paint teardown the interior is being gutted so I will have ready access to the door guts. If I have to weld in some structure I'll do it (groan...) That would still be easier than the other surgery that has been performed on this door during the cab conversion.

BTW....why would you want to give up a pass side mirror? sucks in traffic....lots of neck twisting.

That's the euro or "RS" thing to do. Less weight for racing and factory

Dave;

That is why I never installed one on it. The FWM has the measurements needed for proper placement.

What color are you painting the old turd?

who you callin' a turd !?

You'll be wanting it back when I get finished working it over

it will be GPwhite...no more pearl. Entire new interior, likely the same color as existing. A new tire/wheel combo is also in the plan. I have a set of Euro headlights and some other cool stuff in my parts bin that will make it to this poject.

"****" is the term of endearment used at the daily progress check meeting. If I told them what you called her they would probably adopt that and harass me with "sluty turd" comments every day.

Mr. Tass,
Response on mirror install from Professor JFKempf, da ski bum.
______________________________________________
You can send this to the forums if you want. I think Dave's cab is an 80
or 81. Basically early doors. Porsche had a kit for the few years where
the mirror was an option. That kit only had the cross threaded pivot
pin, the bolt, the mirror, the harness and the allen screw. The harness
goes all the way into the pass footwell area and connects to the
existing round connector. As far as I can tell the aluminum extrusion
that is in the door where the pivot pin installs is there in every 928.
It's either welded or bonded in. Most likely bonded because I have
looked for weld ripples in almost every 928 I have seen and can't ever
see them.

The kit supposedly as it has been described to me had a paper template
for cutting the holes in the door in the proper place. A rubbing of the
driver's side door will work if reversed. So, one need only cut the
holes in the door, thread the harness and install the parts.

I am still mirrorless but I have assembled the entire kit at this point
plus I have several mirrors one of which I have already painted. So I
really have no excuse other than priority... Drag reduction... that's
it.

jfk
