Default Cant get the clutch out.

Well, I took Jim Bailey's, and everyone elses advise here, took the lower bell housing, and exhaust off the car, Jim B. told me to drop the clutch and check out the pilot bearing, well I didnt get that far, I loosened and removed everything per the WSM's but I cant get the damn clutch to drop out. Its like its hung up in there, I can get the pressure plate to move and rotate, and I can get the intermediate shaft move back, but its like the disc's have pressure, they wont slide back, so I gave up and went home.

P.S. Jim told me to stick a 10 inch piece of wire down the TT to see if the front bearing has moved down the TT, well I stuck the wire down the tube about 2 feet and didnt hit a damn thing , think this is where the vibration is coming from, I can move the internal shaft around in a circle about an inch in circumfrence.
TIA

Mine was the same way. Check the pins. They move in and out and mine was hung up on them. Is the release arm off?

The pins move in and out. You mean theoretically. Mine were more or less pounded in and out.

Justin,
TT is time consuming but not that bad.
Since you've just about got the clutch out, replace the pilot bearing anyway-cheap.

There are a handful of dowel pins that center the pressure plate on the flyweel. You drive them into the flywheel to remove the pressure plate and you drive them back into the pressure plate on reinstallation of the pressure plate. They are an inteference fit and about the diameter of a large nail. They are at the perimeter of the pressure plate in line with the bolts that attach the pressure plate to the flywheel..

The pressure plate will move away from the disc's, but I cant get the whole assembly to drop down. I pulled on the little shaft and it moved out about an 1/2 inch, so I think its out of the pilot bearing.

The intermediate shaft needs to come back further.

Did you drive the pins in? There isn't enough room in there unless the pins are driven flush with the flywheel.

There are three locator pins, as mentioned. Two are the same size, and one is slightly larger. I usually remove them all the way with a punch. You sound confident the intermediate shaft has cleared the pilot bearing, but you didn't mention anything about the three shims shown in the WSM to relieve the pressure plate. What you're describing does sound like either the arm is still coupled or those shims aren't in place.

Rear coupler all the way back so the end of the intermediate shaft is visible?

Throwout bearing guide tube unbolted?

The three clutch centering dowel pins all the same size part # 999 012 030 00 ( until LH injected ) must be pounded forward into the flywheel to allow the intermediate plate to drop down out of the bell housing. And as mentioned the two bolts for the release bearing guide tube need to be removed and the clutch arm popped off the upper socket. The nub on the end of the clutch short shaft protrudes about 3/4 of an inch and engages the inside of the pilot bearing but do not pull back too far or the clutch disc near the flywheel will fall off the short shaft.

Jim,

Don't you want to move those pins towards the rear? Otherwise won't they get hung up on the engine when turning the flywheel?

Do yourself a favor when driving those pins forward. Either put 3 bolts back in around the pressure plate -- or wear a helmet.
