Default 928 Motorsports Plans a 928 Performance Driving School Event

Hello everyone!

It is our 5th year in business, (so soon?) and I think we are ready to host our first big 928 event.

I have been working on it already, and have a few things fleshed out.

Tell me what you think.

The event is a 928 Performance Driving School and Fun Day.

It would be held at the Autobahn Race Course and Country Club on
Tuesday, Sept 19th, 2006. (9/28 was not available - I tried)

The Autobahn is in Joliet, Illinois – about 45 minutes from Chicago and about 1.5 hours from St. Louis. Easy to get to from everywhere.

So far, I call the event "928s on the Autobahn"

I have reserved the entire North track (1.5 mile) for the day, complete
with Insurance, 6 corner workers and a starter/chief, and Ambulance.

The Autobahn is a beautiful, new facility with large grassy run-off areas (nothing to hit) and the track is 40 feet wide everywhere.

Pictures and Info about it here: www.autobahncountryclub.net

This is not a race - but rather - a performance driving practice session and school, in the middle of a national 928 gathering.

We are flying in Mark Anderson to give a 1-hour talk on "Performance
Driving the 928" after which you would be able to go back out on the
track and try out some of his ideas. You may have watched Mark campaign
his White 928 in the Speed GT series on TV, and now, he can give you
some driving pointers on how to get more out of yours.

I will also hold a separate drivers ed session about how to choose the right line in a corner.

In addition, I have been asking experienced 928 racers if they would come and offer to ride-along a few laps as an in-car instructor.

So far, these are the driver/instructors that have offered to do this for you:

Mark Anderson: http://928intl.com/race/index.htm

David Lloyd: http://928racing.net/DavidLLoyd.htm

Carl Fausett: http://www.928m.com/928sc.html

I am also chatting with other racers that have not been able to confirm their schedule just yet.

We have gotten a professional car photographer to be at the event so you can purchase photo packages of you with your 928 if you like.

You do not have to drive to attend! Working with the numbers, I have
been able to keep this a "free admission" event, so bring the family!

If you just want to show up and enjoy the good times and not drive -
come on down. We all want to see you.

Drivers: I have been able to keep the fees down to $155 per driver if
you pre-register, $175 per driver if you don't. I am capping the admission at a max of 50 cars so all are sure to get PLENTY of track time and Instructor attention!

Two driver cars are welcome. Sorry, no discount. BUT: ride-alongs are permitted, and anyone 16 YOA of age or older can ride along with an approved helmet.

An approved Snell-rated helmet is required. That's all. Oh, and you
will have to wear your seat belts...

Food and Drink is available at the track in the Café’ - about 300 yards from where we will be. They have a full menu and a Chef (not your typical trackside fare - good eating!)

At this time I have vendor tables with products from 928 Motorsports
and 928 International, and I am sure we will pick up some other
interesting things to look at by the time of the event.

I have two questions for all of you:

Q1: In order to get anything near a reasonable track rental fee, it needs to be a weekday. Is that a problem? Sept 19th is a Tuesday.

Q2: Now I see that the 928OC is planning a wonderful event in Denver CO. Looks like we have been working on parallel paths! I do not want to detract from their draw – although their activities are completely different from ours. Do you think the summer may become too diluted with 928 events if we do both?

I am about to write a pretty big check to the Autobahn - and I would like to gauge your level of interest before I do so.

Carl,

nice.
that's exactly what we need. Sign me up along with my buddy Jeff Jackson.
Sounds like great fun.
Q1: weekday is fine-maybe even two days Carl
Q2: it's always best not to compete with other events for max. draw

Regards Rich

Labor day is Sept 1st, I think. As to a 2-day event - I cannot afford to rent the race track for 2 consecutive days. (Can't really afford to rent it for ONE day if we do not get enough people signed up...)

Still, I thought a driving/performance event would be closer to our product lines, and we wanted to do something different then the other 928 gatherings are offering.

We will see what the level of interest is here and then make a "go, no-go" decision based on that...

Q1: I don't know if I'll be able to make it this far in advance, but I really like the idea. During the week is not ideal, but if it's the only way you can pull it off financially, it'll have to do.

Q2: OCIC is a 25 hour drive and Joliet is 10 hours according to Yahoo maps. I'd much rather drive 10 and get some track instruction.

Too bad it's only a one day event. I guess I have 6 months to find a way to justify 14+ hrs each way for a one day event I don't want to miss.

So, if you just want to bring your 928 and not drive on the track it would be free? But if you want the instruction you pay right?

Carl,

I would love to make the 1,100 round trip in my new S4 and visit some of my old haunts up in Illinois and Wisconsin, but I am going off to Scotland that following week and just won't have the time. The idea is great, but the timing sucks (for me!)

That's the way I planned it. Admission is free (well the track did say if more than 100 humans attend, there will be a $5 "Impact Fee" per person assessed at the gate. First 100 folks don't pay that.)

Heck, you could even stand in on the performance driving instruction sessions without paying - I do not care if you listen in. You just won't get your car on the track or any ride-along in-car instructions.

We want to see your car... you want to grab one of us aside and ask us to look at something on your car that puzzles you, you may want to see/hear a supercharged or turbo'd (or whatever shows up) 928 run - there are a LOT of reasons to come even if you do not want to drive.

Too far to drive? I hear Continental to Chicago is like $98 - carpool a rent-a-car and come-on down!

Here is my plan:

Step 1 : waiting on your responses to pull a "go, no-go" decision and send the check in for the racetrack. I have it reserved right now, but not paid for.

Step 2: if enough interest is there - we pay for the track and start selling tickets. Only 50 will be sold for drivers.

Step 3: I'll sell tickets to 928 only entrants until about August 1st. Then I will open the event to the PCA Chicago and PCA St.Louis and fill out the field with any Porsche so I do not loose my shirt on this event. In an ideal world - we'll have 50 928s and I will not have to open it up.

Tell your friends! Where else are you going to drive a fast lap at a closed course with "Mr 928" in the seat next to you providing guidance?

Carl,
I think your idea is a great one, I think the more choices the 928 community has for a summer the more perticipation there will be in all.

You have worked very hard on the support of the Marque, Good luck with your event.
