So what I did was use the channel locks to gently secure the flywheel while I removed the 6 bolts freeing the flywheel from the torque tube. Then I used the two wrench technique to free the top two bellhousing bolts. After that it was easy. Engine came out without any problems and I mounted it up on my stand. The hardest part about the stand is turning the engine over. Here are some quick pics, sorry for the quality as I had only my camera phone, but more to come soon including gratuitous man standing in engine bay shots.
First is the engine on the stand, then the empty bay, then the engine with my slick MSDS headers fitted.
Oh yeah, and thanks to everyone whose advice got me here. Couldn't do it without rennlist.

Congrats! I agree that rotating the engine on the stand is tough...I needed a cheater bar to get it upright again. The engine is quite top-heavy.
You'll never get a better chance to clean and detail the engine!
