Default Update - Metal to Metal scratching noise solved!

I think the 2 are unrelated, but help me walk through my logic.

I was out driving, when I heard starting from a dead stop this, "creak creak crk crk ck k k k." It's pretty loud and it's definately speed related not RPM related. If so, it cannot be the clutch, right?

But it still sounds like it's coming from the middle of the vehicle. I had my wife listen, but bless her heart, she did know what to listen for. She heard the squeak, but couldn't tell me id is was coming from the rear wheel (I fisrt suspected the parking brake) or the headlights.

Best I could tell from the driver's seat with the door open was that it was coming from under the car, but it could have been a pass-side wheel. I felt all the wheels to see if there was on hot one. Nothing.

I sure hope it's not the trans... any other suggestions on where to look?

does the sound go away when you hit the brakes? Also does the sound change as you go around a corner?

Maybe apply the ebrake lightly while driving to see if it is in the park brake mechanism.

I'm guessing wheel bearing. It doesn't make any noise when stopped, correct? Might want to make sure your lugnuts are tight. Sometimes where you think the sound is coming from is misleading.

I just took another listen. And it is drive train related, butI think it's coming from the clutch area. It only make noise when in gear, but is vehicle speed related. When I pulled it back into the garage, as the clutch area passed by the garage door pilar, it was definately louder, so I think it's coming from the clutch area.

I leave for vacation tomorrow, so it'll have to wait until I get back.

is the frequency of the sound fast or slow? High pitched or low pitched? Does it go away once you press on the clutch?

Frequency is slow. Very slow. The slower the car moces the slower the sound - that's why I thought wheel... still might be. I would say it's a medioum pitch, and as soonas I push in the clutch pedal is goes away. I'm confused on this because if it were clutch related, wouldn't it be dependant on the speed of the engine - and not the car?

So it stops when you push in the clutch, even if you are moving?

While moving try pushing the clutch in just enough to feel pressure, does the sound go away.

Definately clutch related. If i push the pedal in, the noise goes away even when the car is moving. The sound is very faint when in neutral.

Watch this!

That is very wierd. Sounds like wheel bearing as it is only when moving. I once had a similar sound when I had some steel belts break inside a tire.
