Default Random idea, useing PSA as a power adder.

Pressure Swing Adsorbson is used to remove N2 from air to produce a gas of about 90+% O2.

Anyone ever heard of someone trying to use such a unit as a power adder?

I know, the units are normaly industrial sized, but I wounder how difficult it would be to addapt the technology for automotive size. If possible, one could increase the power of an engine by up to over 4 times as much as with normal air, all other things being roughly equal.

Just run a bottle of oxygen directly to your plenum. Metered of course. Ghetto upgrades.

Gotta be EXTRMELY careful with pure O2, it spikes the combustion temps through the roof.

No2 has nitrogen which adds a massive cooling effect, which is why people use nitrous and not pure oxygen.

Well, this origionaly came out of an idea to try to use the heat from the exaust to generate 2NO. That turned out to be way difficult. Probably impossible.

O2 is easier to generate, so I started looking into industrial processes to make O2. One of the main processes is cryogenic process. It required big equipment to make it efficent. It just isn't going to be practical to mount such a system on the car.

The smaller O2 plants use PSA or VPSA. My thinking was has anyone heard, or tried of someone trying to build a PSA, or VPSA plant in the frame of a car.

Sorta like adding a turbo. Assumeing it can even be done. Adding some O2 can't be much worse than unintercooled boost. But I've never heard of anyone even trying.

Unless you can figure a way to keep the cylinder temps way down you will melt the valves and rings such in a big hurry. I am in the middle of taking Thermodynamics I at MSU and O2 greatly increases the amount of Uint (Internal Energy in the form of chem.,atomic, and molecular bonds) in a system. This is it is the best Oxidizer availible and has the heat to prove it. Definitely do NO2 if you are spray any vehicle to keep the temps down in the cylinder.
