The 235's were $110 each and the 295's were $185.
Carl, I hear you on going with the uberwheel solution, I spent way more time than someone should looking at HRE's, Champions, CCW's, and all the factory options. No matter what I did, even with cheap rubber I was looking at $4k. And what's the point of $110 rubber on $750 wheels?

Besides, these damn cars have turned me into a wheel *****- I swore I'd run the CS wheels forever, then the Cup1's, now these- all in 3 years. So it's harder to rationalize super expensive wheels and tires.

It's easiest for me to rationalize super OE Porsche wheels and tires at super cheap prices.

I got these take off CIII's with Bridgestone RE050 PP for $1100 shipped. They had virtually no miles on them and came with center caps.

^^^^^^
Jim that is hard to beat, but not all that hard to replicate...especially if you are tight with your local Porsche dealer!

That is a great deal! I do like the looks of the CIII's a lot. I was close to buying a set of 19" 997 lobster claws that had midnight blue painted centers for $1600, but they needed tires and I chickened out on the 19"ers. Oh well, lots of good options if the Cup4's are junk....

Why not just buy one good set of wheels (for more $$$) that you intend to run forever.
Is there a rule of thumb that says you should only spend so much $ in relationship to the cost of your wheels? I put PS2s on mine which cost twice as much as the wheels?

Jim, your wheels look great!!! The reason I went with the SE Cup 4 is besides the fact I think they look great is I had yet to see them on any 928........

Unless they fall apart I don't really see any. Like Rob said above, it's easy to spend $4-6k for the name on a set of expensive wheels and at some point they are going to look dated. A positive here is I have several iterations to go b/f I've got that much into wheels/tires and can perhaps keep the look more current?

I've been down the road of spending big bucks on wheels/tires and unless there is a terrible downside to these wheels I don't really see an issue?

Perhaps we have the opposite situation as I commented about in another thread where folks just weren't used to looking at a 928 with 19" wheels and now I'm used to looking at the 19" SE Cup 4s? I know it hasn't settled and the pics were just a test fit but they look small on the car.

Chuck,

These do look great although I am curious how the ride has changed?

The 235 is close to the same rolling dia at 25.5" vs 25.0 but the 295's are at 26" vs 25" dia. Overall power must feel different and I noticed when I put my 18" speedlines on my GTS with 235/295 PS2's the ride became a bit harsh vs the 17's with PS2's. I know my 235 on 18 are at 25.4" dia and I rubbed a little on the GTS do these rub the inner wheel liner at full lock? The PS2 has a soft sidewall but you don't have much tire there no matter how soft. Watch out for pot holes and good luck I do like the look.

Thanks Anthony. I must be completely insensitive to the change in ride as the short distance I drove the car I didn't notice all that much difference in ride quality vs. my 18s. Could be b/c the SO2s were so hard and the ride quality so bad on them due to the age of the SO2s the new PS2s were like riding on air compared to them? I put 20s on two of our AMG cars (SL55 and E55 wagon) and actually think they ride better than the stock 18s I replaced.... Personally, I feel like we over think this whole ride quality thing? Perhaps if I drove these cars everyday I'd be more sensitive to the subject? Having said that, I did recently replace the 18s on my SUV with 20s and the ride did stiffen up but in a good way.....

Re: going up an inch & upgrading to PS2 -
Going from 17" Pilot SXX to PS2's on 18" wheels - I swear that although handling noticeably improved, the ride softened. The PS2's have a remarkable ride & are very quiet for an ultra high performance tire.
Even if the ride harshened a tad, the aesthetic benefits of a 19" vs. an 18" are worth it, IMO. Chuck's new shoes are a perfect example. New wheels are mostly about looks anyway, right?

Sorry Chuck, but you know I had to say it. Just throwing it out there.
I'm still waiting for somebody to do some really cool (and $$$) stuff like a magnesium wheel, centerlock wheels, carbon brakes or other stuff.

My days of throwing $$$ at the 928 are over anyways...

I guess you were already accustomed to the 18's so I don't think there should be as much difference between the 18's and 19's as there is between 17's & 18's. The S02's are a very hard riding tire too not quite as bad as the Pirelli Rosso's though so it more than likely is an even swap. I think you will find all around the PS2 to be a superior tire. It is all I use on the street (I have 4 sets on different wheels) and makes a decent wet track tire too.

Glad to see you really enjoying the car this time around.

BTW everyone happy holidays.

FWIW I noticed a pretty significant difference in ride going from 16s to 17s (in a good way) so I can imagine a big difference going all the way to 19s. I like the 17" size, fits the car perfectly. The 19s look like wagon wheels to me.

But I guess it's all in what you're used to.

Default New Wheels

Bought some AG Cup wheels for my S4. Hoping the snow will go away soon so I can get them on the car. They're 18" wheels with 225's and 285's. I'll post some pictures of the car when they're mounted.
