Default Automatic transmission leak

I have a leak on my '88 S4 automatic transmisson. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the transmission where a cable goes into the housing. Is this the Bowden/kickdown cable? It looks like a plastic connector. I cannot find any mention of an O-ring in the PET. Can someone find this for me and let me know what I need whether it is an o-ring or gasket plus part number? I also need to know how to install it. Do I pull the pan to get to the end of the cable? Does the cable plastic connection unscrew from the transmission or does it just pull out?

Thanks

999.701.960.40 o-ring

It's in the PET, page 178, under group 7

You can buy the o-ring with the above part number at any Mercedes dealer or from Porsche thru any of the big three. My Mercedes dealer stocks gaskets and seals for this transmission.

But I doubt that's the source of your leak unless the o-ring is missing. There's no pressure, just fluid level which is indicated by the reservoir tank on the side of the transmission.

The cable removes with a squeeze and twist after loosing the other cable end at the engine manifold. See the procedure in the WSM.

Had the same problem and the o-ring was missing. Very easy fix, just do as Borland described.
