Actually, I don't think it's such a bad idea to require a fire extinguisher, but I hear that the halon type is no longer allowed in certain countries.
I'm not sure, if this has to do with ozone, or what the reason might be -- they would do so much less damage to the car in the case of a fire! But I hear that those small ones really aren't strong enough to fight any serious fire.
When Louie's car caught fire in Wichita, I think they used at least three larger extingishers to put out the fire. And it still took a while...

When I bought my 928 it had a small extinguisher fitted between the drivers seat and the door. I was driving it about 3 years ago when the extinguisher went off and covered me and the whole inside of the car with about half inch of white powder. The safety loop was intact but somehow the top of the extinguisher had unscrewed itself.
I never did replace it.....
I read somewhere once with a car engine fire you should leave the bonnet shut, pull the release in case the cable burns through & leave it just on the safety catch.
Then squirt the extinguisher underneath so the stuff is dragged up to the fire along with the air feeding the fire. If you open the bonnet and squirt from the top then the rising hot air just blows it away.
Never tried it just book learning....
