Possible? (928 buying advice)

Depends on the year, I know that Stan Shaw has a Moss green 928 that he is looking to move. You might want to try contacting him. For 5K you could fly out there and drive it home OR have it shipped and have some spare $$'s

A dealer would be highly unlikely, but Private Party should be no problem. Depending on MY, an "S" should be around $5k, or less as years drop pre-'83 w/out spoilers (basing on SoCal similar to NorCal).
I found mine for $4500 with only 34k...then I drove away real quick before the police came...'cause I felt like I stole it.
I think my situation was a fluke, but even so, if you see one you like, don't hesitate to arrange to see it, PPI etc., and have cash to show good intention. There are still owners of good cars that don't know what they're worth...especially if they are parting with it because they have lost interest. They merely consider it 20+ years old and of moderate value at best.
Good luck and be patient...you'll find what you're looking for soon enough.

The BMW E36 is like 1992-1998 as I recall. The comparison to a 1983-1986 928 would seem to ignore that the 928 is ten or so years older and should have had some $20,000 of additional repairs. If you want a car to drive on a regular basis not something to decorate the driveway consider something a bit more mainstream and practical. A lot of things can happen in 20 years to cars and not all of them are good .

Don't plan on not having problems right away, there are so many things that can go wrong as soon as you shut the door on the car. You will need to spare some money for repairs, especially at such a low price, the chances of you finding a PERFECT shark for $5,000 are very slim. For $5,000 you could find a reliable daily driver to get you around town and not have to constantly worry about the car. Personally I enjoy working on my car, although it frustrates me alot, I still smile every time I push the pedal down.
Good Luck!!!

you could go junkyard searching and get something for a few thousand, that's early, then have it rebuilt for less than $5,000, but that might be a rat bag car, at best.
you looked into anything else?
924/944/914's?

What years are you looking for? I have a 79 auto that will have to be sold VERY soon....most mechanical issues taken care of (including engine out re-seal, brakes, etc.) but needs a paint job. Here's a pic.
PM me for details if interested. Also, G Man in Carson City has an 81 for sale that was painted a couple years ago, but I don't know the mechanical condition.
