Looks very nice. Where did you get the tips & other pipes?

Has anyone done this for an OB single pipe system?

Yes you can do this for an 0B single, dual, triple, or quadruple exhaust.

YOU are welding the pipes on yourself, so YOU can weld it up anyway ya want. Hell, you can weld a set of horns on the hood if you wanted to.

PS: The early mufflers are different as Jack suspects.

Yup, Sniper is right, the '85-'86 32 V exhaust and the '86.5 are a little different. You can actually see the difference between your pipes and unclenick's. Keep you eye on the passanger side pipe. The '86.5 passanger side pipe runs all the way form the passanger side. The early 32V have both pipes run next to each other along the driver side of the car. The '86.5 has a smaller battery box to accomodate for the extra resonator and the routing of the passanger side pipe.

The 16V US 928 have a single exhaust all the way form the front. These 928s are the simplest to make an RMB for. Only need one pipe to bent to the right shape and that's it.

Most any muffler shop offer the Stainless steel exhaust tips in both angle cut, and squared off, in all the common pipe diameters. You can also pick them up at most of the larger auto parts outlets...same goes for the aluminized tubing. You do the measurement, and have the muffler shop do the bending and welding. Poof..all done and a 1/4 the price of the redi-built parts. This also gives you the "customiztion" option. There are literally dozens of different style tips you can select, and design your own, one-off style RMB...vs. the same old-same old. But, to each his own. My goal was to get the sound and look for under $50, instead of $200. Mission accomplished.

Exactly, the early 86 cars have the pipes coming out together on the left side instead of straight back. It was actually too easy. I cut the two pipes at an angle and unhooked the 30 lb can. Got two pipes approx 1 1/2 foot each, left a little room for mistakes. I had to cut the right side pipe at a little more of an angle than the left to get em straight. When I get to work on Monday, I'll take a couple of good pics and post em here.

I almost did not buy this car because there was a VIN mixup on the E-bay ad, the guy I got the car from posted the right VIN on E-bay but when he sent me the title before I got the car, he sent me the title to his other 928, which is a 86.5. Once it was worked out, I am happy even with the 86 as it is everything I hoped for. I can say, having owned V-8 American Muscle cars, the sound of the car now reminds me of my 91 Mustang (347 stroker with a Vortech S-Trim). I love the way this car handles, drives and the power it has. Heck, I have not drove my 911 in 2 weeks now...LOL I better drive her soon or she will get mad at me(break something) and try and get back at me for buying her younger sister.
