Default Pullin engine with MSDS headers

I am going to pull the engine on my 80 Euro S to replace the rod bearings, install crankscraper, and hopefully do the oil pan stud kit. I have MSDS headers, is it possible to pull the engine with the headers on? It is such a pain to remove and reinstall them with the engine in having done it twice now. Any thoughts?

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to do with the radiator removed. The crossmember may have to come out also, but I doubt it.

Do you have any tips for removing them without removing the engine? I have to remove at least one of them to get to my clutch.

MattDog;

If you let your AC compressor hang, taking the pass. side header off is a breeze. That'd be my first choice. Also a collection of gearwrenches, stubby wrenches and a checklist of swear words will help.

Cool, thanks. My airpump is out and I'm going to remove the crossmember to replace the MMs, so that should give me even more room.

And when do you plan on doing the MM job?? If you need someone to hold the beer, I've got two good hands.
Plus, I need to come get that euro box.

I'm still working on cleaning the garage. I'm about halfway there. It will probably be a few weeks more since I have to do some traveling. I'm also going to take a while doing it since I have a lot of other stuff to do at the same time like rebuild the clutch, rack bushings and seals, ball joint boots, tie-rod boots, oil pan gasket and maybe take some measurements for a drysump pan, build a belly pan, and probably a lot of other stuff.

Thanks guys, No ac condenser or rear fuel regulators so should be a breeze. I have removed and reinstalled them twice with the engine in and the pass side is easy, no ac or air pump, except for the second bolt from the front is a pain. The drivers side is tough to unscrew, and I had to unbolt the engine and jack it up a few inches in order to slide the header in/out. Well, thanks!!!

So I got under the car today and the headers are blocking the cover that I need to remove in order to disconnect the engine from the torque tube. Sterling, how did you get the cover off? Is there another way to disconnect the engine from the TT? The WSM shows the procedure for 5spd engines. I really do not want to have to go through removing the headers with the engine in. It is sucha PITA!!!!

Do you guys usually take the hood off when pulling a motor? I know it's not necessary, 4-bolts to remove the hood should make yanking the engine easier.

I've pulled my motor a few times. Always removed the headers. Just an easier pull and as stated, you can't get the clutch cover off with them in place.
Hood always off.
I'm sure there are short cuts, but I just like to make sure I have as much stuff out of the way as to not hang up or damage something. As always YPMV (your pull may vary)

What about installing the engine? Can you install it with the headers on or you got to put the headers on after the engine is in?

Thanks,

Klim
P.S. It is kind of on topic...

Well, access to the lower bellhousing cover is blocked, so I'm going to have to remove them and then pull the engine. Installation would be reverse.

Wait, you mean you cannot get the bellhousing out, or you cannot get the bolts out?

You cannot remove or install the lower clutch cover with the MSDS header in place.
