Chris,

In a Concours, it all depends on what category or class you will enter the 928 in. In the Wash & Shine class, the engine does not get looked at (as well as the suspension and chassis). If you enter the full Concours class, then they check everything... and I do mean everything.

Your engine looks beautiful, good job. I bet she runs great as well!

WOW....went from okay....to excellent!!! Just from looking at that engine & the detail you put into it....with a couple "tricks" your car would do very well in a concours! Often a better prepared (i.e. the spots to clean that most judges look for) car will beat a "nicer" car.....I beat a 12K mile 1984 944 last season....that thing was disgusting...not a rip-tear-paint chip on it (don't know why he was in wash & shine class?)...his car was in better condition than mine, but mine was better prepared (that day) & knowing the rules of your class (small wear & tear things like rock chips, seat wear etc don't hurt you in wash & shine) is what won that day (198.5 of 200)... I plan on attending several Zone 7 PCA concours this year....I'm just debating if I want to tackle the engine and jump to street or preservation class? Drop me an email and I'll give you some ideas (Chuck Z is another great resource for concours) Concours are fun...but man are they a contest for guys with serious OCD problems! :>) Some of the cars are just unreal in their condition....take a look at this link...the zone 7 concours chair's 02 996 is incredible....also take a look at the concours forum on this site under perf-comp

Thanks alot!
So, will the SITM concours be a full concours, or more like a wash n shine? I guess if it is a full concours, I'm going to have to get to work on my undercarriage and suspension. Anyone with more input would be greatly appreciated!

Dave: It's a shop in Lafollette, about 30 minutes north of knoxville. They build weight equipment and also powdercoat. They did a pretty good job, and only cost me $260. It was definitely worth the money, and I figured since I already had the parts off, I should go ahead and have it done. I'm going to have some more parts done in the future. Mostly some small miscellaneous pieces that I want to have done in black so they will look new again. We need to meet up on the way to SITM, you are going, Right! The more sharks the better!

It's more like a Wash-n-Shine. I can't speak for other years, but last year* it was a people's choice concourse. Everyone had a ballot, and they voted for the 3 cars they liked the most. I believe all 3 winners were GTS's.

In a full PCA concours EVERYTHING counts and having the intake powder coated would be a FLAW as not original, polishing the cross brace as well . The only thing you get to /must remove is the cosmoline protectant. Winning cars are like ten times cleaner than a brand new car!

Thanks Jim! I really don't like the idea of entering a full concours. I think a step down, maybe the street class, I think thats what it was called, would be more of my taste. I enjoy driving the car too much to try to be that **** on keeping it clean. If I was to get everything that perfect, I would be afraid of taking it out.
Thanks!
Chris

Wow - that's very impressive! But now that it's so nice, you'll have to keep it up...

Bill always gives me a hard time about my car beeing too clean, and not driven enough. But in reality, I know of lots of areas I'd like to have cleaner than they are. Oh well, I just try not to look under the car more often than I have to...

There is no such thing as a too clean 928!!!! I know we think alike in that regard...& in reality we both should drive our cars more! Mine isn't even at my house right now....its in "storage"for a little bit! But I still drive it about once a week to keep everything flowing!
