My 1990 GT has over 340,000km on the clock, which equates to around 220,000 miles. The engine was fine until the PO decided that he can do 250km/h on the Autobahn for 45mins and be low on oil at the same time...

Following a complete engine rebuilt the car is back on the road. It still rides on the original suspension, has never been to a bodyshop and oh, yes, it is the fastest 928 around the Nurburgring Mind you, it was religiously maintained by a Porsche dealer in Germany before it suffered the 2-6.

My 1984 Euro S2 5spd has just done 125,000 miles and it will still smoke any S4 Auto/S4 5spd... Seeing 170mhp indicated on the speedo is a regular occurance on my travels in Belgium and Germany...

My odometer shows 165,000 - But the PO says it hasn't moved in 4+ years!
Best estimate is around 180k...And still runs like a scalded dog!

Bought my car in '89 with 20K. I'm now at 175K. I'll be putting a stroker in soon but not because of any disapointment with the current motor. I've never had to put oil in it between changes, no smoke, still plenty of power. It still has the original radiator hoses on it! I have new ones but haven't had to install them!

My '89 S4 auto has approx 260.000 km ~ 162.000 miles. Bought it six-seven months ago, and I'm planning to keep it forever. Looking at the posts here about other cars mileage, it looks like the car will outlast me, and that's good to know

My S4 has over 275,000 miles, and the engine has NEVER been opened. It last dynoed 275/285 at about 225,000. It runs very strong, and is healthy. I am about to replace a TB/WP in a few days. Parts on hand... Just need some time. Oh, and I am also in process of mounting an SC. Car does not burn any oil, and I have used synth oil in the eng & trans, as did the PO. The car has also been tracked..

It is surely not babied, nor a garage queen...! I planned on doing a rebuild at 300,000 miles, but if the engine is healthy at that time, I will run it as long as the compression etc. is good..

Richard,

When you change the t-belt and WP have a peek at the cam chain tensioners. I know you are planning to rebuild the engine at 300K but if the chain tensioner breaks there will not be an engine left to rebuild. If they look ok, leave it till the rebuild.

The Porsche dealer here in Minnespolis had a 928 with alost 400K on it... they were actually trying to justify a higher price because of the mileage! Sounds like a Porsche dealer... I took a close look at teh car... ratty would be the way I'd describe it. Somehow everything seemed to be looking or appearing worn out eventhough there was nothing in particular that stood out.... weird.

You shouldn't have moved!

I'm sure it was because you couldn't get the 928 out of second gear in that @#$% traffic...
