Default Rolex 24 Hours - late check in...

Hello Gang,

Well...I was very happy to see at least 3-4 Sharks at the Rolex 24 Hours last weekend. What a great race...really enjoyed seeing the DPs and especially the GT3s run. We spent lots of time in the garage areas watching the crews work their magic under serious time pressure. Lots of interesting crashes and untimely mechanical failures along the way. Fortunately, no one was injured...so it was very exciting to watch. It was my first time attending the 24 Hours @ Daytona.

Hey Mark (Pensacola), Was that your Blue Euro S parked in the PCA Paddock with the For Sale sign on it?. I looked all over for you but no luck. I should have left a note on your windshield with my cell phone.

Who else was in attendance with or without your Shark?

I was there with my gold 85. Wish I could of met you Tim. I did get to yak with Mark for a while. Dont think his blue 85 euro is for sale though. There was a red 928S with a for sale sign across the front window, but I only saw it driving by the paddock area. There was also a white S from the Tampa area too, had a Tampa Bay Bucs tag on it, but I didnt talk to him. Mark said the guy was not a Rennlister. I did have a older gent come up & introduce himself that was from the Orlando area. He said he owns a 79 shark although he did not have it there at the time. After I told him about Rennlist & our upcoming Sebring Shark Shiver, he said he planned on getting involved with both. It was great weather for the Rolex, great event all around!

Mel and Darien,
Thanks for your replies.

Darien,
I am entertaining the idea of buying an earlier Shark (S3 era) with a manual tranny. There was one for sale on Rennlist a while back owned by a pilot up in MA that was just gorgeous for around $8k. Anyone know if it is sold? Looked incredibly clean and well-maintained. Bottom line, I've got to get my e39 BMW sold and get past my first year start-up in my private practice before I could seriously entertain the idea of another PCar. Priorities are a bitch, eh? It sux NOT to be independently wealthy

Mel,
I'm very interested to know more about the Shark Shiver @ Sebring. When is it occurring? I plan to attend the Historics in March and will be working the 12 Hours of Sebring with SCCA if all goes well.
The white/burgundy '84 S Shark I posted up as being for sale in the Ocala, FL area for $6k might have been one of the folks you spoke to at the race. Sorry I missed you and Mark at the PCA paddock at the Rolex event. I took a nice photo of Mark's car in the PCA Paddock that I need to get to him. Oh and for the record, I was joking about it being for sale...forgot to insert the symbol to let you know I was joking. I'm betting that Mark will probably be buried in that car...right Mark?

Cheers,
Tim

Tim, Search the threads here for the one we started last month with "Get Together at the Sebring PCA races" or some combination like that in it.... have a bunch of info on it there.
Basic info is: It will be next week, Feb. 10-12th. We'll have a separate section set aside within the paddock area just for our 928s, similar to the Porsche paddock area at the Rolex. So far we have around 25 928s committed to going, along with family & friends. At least two 928 racers as well. The hats we had made up are being shipped now. George V. who lives in Sebring is allowing us to use his Greek restaurant as a staging site for socials both Friday and Sat. nites. Many are staying at the Econolodge right across the street from his restaurant. I think the "official day" for our Shark event is Saturday, but people are coming down any time from Thurs. thru Sunday. We hope for it to grow into a great annual winter shark event to allow us to get together in the warm Florida sunshine along with the added opportunity to get to see some great porsche racing too!

Mel,
This is outstanding news. A winter 928 event right here in Florida. I am sorry to say I won't be able to make the dates due to my Father having surgery. However, I would LOVE to buy one of the hats if they're available... Thanks for posting up this information. If you're ever in Gainesville, FL and want to get together for a beer or two or coffee drop me a line.
Best,
Tim

Sorry you cant make the event Tim. I hope all goes well for your Dad's surgery. I cant promise they'll be any of the hats left over after the event. Since it was a last minute thought & without much $$ to work with, we only were able to have a small number of them made, less than 30. We're selling them for $7, but our cost is $15. They are a top quality hat with the logo stiched on. We can get away with the "reverse economics" with our costs/price due to $$ graciously donated by others, including $300 from 928OC. If there are any hats left, I'll hang on to one for you. If I'm ever down near Gator town, I'll let ya know. Same here if you are up here in Jacksonville ever.
