Here is a factory original brand new black leather dash, pod and centre console as seen in my S4 ... the sewn leather I have looks exactly like that.

I have one of those carpeted cover "beauties" too. It covers the pod and the dash and it came with the car. I hated at first then got used to it! Anything is better looking than the carpet cover.

That's what I have. Mine is rarely parked in the sun for any length of time. Pod looks fine, but the dash does have some minor "waves" in it and could look better. The fit at the far corners of the windshield leaves something to be desired.

Does the dash have to be removed to be recovered? Is this something a good upholstry shop can do or is it only best by someone who's 928-proficient?

Rixter?

Thanks.

Hi Heinrich,
How is weather up there?

Mine (Jaeger dahs cover) covers dash and pod. Just like any other carpet cover.
It dose not cover bottom edge of dash. But, it's in very good quality and it dosen't stick out like some other poor quality dash covers.

Hmmm, do I get discounts from Jaeger?

The dash needs to be out of the car.

I bought a core, had the core recovered, switched the two dashes, and returned my original dash (which was a much better core than the disaster I received and had recovered, BTW) for core credit.

These guys do a bunch of work on Lambos and Ferraris. I think the sewing and the templates they made were fantastic. I don't think it has to be 928 specific, just that they have some experience and craftsmenship.

If you take them a pod, make sure they know which hole is the key hole and which holes are occupied by gauges, if you empty it out in advance.

Here are some more images of the Jager Dash cover.

You can order the set of dash and pod covers in leather for $259, or in Leatherette for $209.

Or you can order just the dash cover in leather for $200, or the pod cover for $80.

One of the nice things is that those covers are much easier to clean than the carpets. For someone allergic to dust like myself, the carpets would not work very well...

The other thing is that the leather smells nice and interesting. But if that's not important to you, or if you are a vegan, there is the alternative of a high quality leatherette.

It might be of interest to some to know that it is entirely possible to recover a dash without removing it from the car.

I am developing a system where the leather or vinyl parts will be bonded to the existing dash for a permanent solution. The pod and glove box have to be removed and so are the pillar covers. But that's it. The finished look will be similar to the original leather dash, but the seams will offer the added possibility to include contrasting piping to those who wish it.

I will also recover pods in a little while. I am working on templates for my own dash right now. I should have pictures of a finished dash in a few different styles in a couple of weeks.

Paul,

great news. Will it be a complete system for the upper & lower dash, center console and glove box?.
If so-put me on your wait list for Black leather.(1986S)
Another area I would like to recover in leather is the cassette holder top.

I'm not entirely sure what my dash looks like underneath the cover. To be quite honest, I'm scared stiff to look because I may not be able to get the somewhat decent looking cover back on properly. However, I do know that the original is a vinyl dash, so a pleather finish or a finish similar to what you're talking about would be an upgrade for me.

I'm not really interested in a "cover". A carpeted one or one even as good as the Jager, looks like a temporary fix; no offense just my preference.

Paul, I've got relatives in Houston, so this may just give me the opportunity to make a road trip and get a dash covered if and when you start doing recovering dashes for those other than your own, please let me know

Regards,
David

Many people like the covers. i was not able to live with covers so i bought brand new. However if you happen to be so blessed as to have sewn leather in the right dimensions and you glue it to your dash after prepping, then you are following the exact procedures the factory did, and you end up with a factory leather dash replica in fresh leather.

Any idea how someone might be able to be 'so blessed'? Do you know of such a craftsman?

There's not just an abundance of people who know how to work with leather around here; at least not those who can work with it AND keep the bovine still at the same time...

I'd be more than happy to be the "test mule" for a black ostrich dash...

Here's how.
