i do it in one gear to make the runs comparable and remove the variables. im sure, it could be faster if i did a running start from 50mph in 2nd gear. i have a hard time believing that a 400rwhp takes off 2 seconds from 60 to 100 vs my 320rwhp 928 at probably close to the same total weight. (ie 3000lbs with driver and gas) I do buy it, if they are going through 2 gears vs my one 3rd gear run.

I call 5th gear "the wall" not sure what it's good for in the '85S, 5-speed. Maybe has utility in Nevada. Keeps on crawling though it has a hard time punching through the air...needs more horses.

I should probably do a few timed 60-100 runs.

That's almost ALL second gear in my car(well, up to about 95mph, i shift into third at about that speed, depending on how far i wind the motor out. I have hit 98mph in second gear, but only for ****s and giggles )

M21s gearing:

1: 0-54mph
2: 55-95ish mph
3: 95-135+
4: Who knows....

Wow...your car is quite a bit faster in each gear than my 88 S4 auto (2.20)....I'm not exactly sure what mine is....but I think its about like this
1st 45?
2nd 80-85
3rd 140 (sure of this one)
4th ????

You should try some 60-100's....its fun & you really don't need that big of gap in "traffic" to do it....plus its fun watching cars fly by when your at 60 to get smoked in about 2-3 seconds!

Believe me Sir, i need no external encouragement to speed in wanton disregard for the posted limit.

Hehehehehehhehe....

BTW, my 83 has the 2.20 final drive ratio and 4spd A/T. Verrrrrrrrrrrry long legs in every gear. It weighs in right around 3150lbs with my butt in the seat, and also has what i would guess to be about 100hp more than stock (based on my E/Ts and some industrial park races against 2 different MY 1983 928S- one US and one Euro).

Harvey, I know a guy with an '86.5 that has NO trouble at all pegging his speedometer in 5th all day long. Actually, I know a little bird that flew in my window and told me about that guy. The guy says the gears are just about right for his car and cruising conditions. At least that's what the bird said. Then he flew away never to disclose the identity of the mysterious fellow.

I havn't done any 60-100 runs, i was just saying i should, lol.

If i did do them it would be flooring it from 60 with a kickdown into 2d gear.

60 bucks?
Do one session then you have a base line from there on out for any other performance adders that yieled you another 100hp

I was wondering about the kickdown and whether guys were letting the car do that or were disabling it so it would stay in 3rd from 60 to 100. When i manually kick down my auto it litterally leaps out of 60! Next time i get on the belt way ill take a watch and a video camera and try to acurately time it...actualy i will let the video time it, I will drive.

Only 4?
that will get you in 6 times down here....4-5 runs a night
10 bucks to run..5 bucks to watch and be a passenger.

I will try and do both on 60-100

1) a normal in "D" rolling start at 60 and let the car do the rest
2) a 2nd gear start at 60 ..then shift when needed...
3) a run in 3rd only...i will have to disconnect somehting to do that

i already know the 60-100 on a flying start.

Might be interesting to do one from a standing start too.

I have to get my hands on a gtec. My buddy used to lend his out to people(including me) all the time, until someone bothered to not bring it back.

There's always some assshole that's gotta mess it up for the rest of us, lol.
