Default Adjustable front springs in an older car (NEW: pics)

Hi all,

my '81 rides a little high in the front, and I decided to upgrade to the later style adjustable front spring set-up.

I've purchased the original Porsche components; threaded collar, nut and the lower spring perches.

(I Have red konis)

But I can not see how this setup can lower the car. The height of the threaded collar is adding to the height about 20mm, and the new perches are the same or maybe 1-2mm lower. I'm afraid this will only make my car way higher.

Please enlighten me.

MM

Where on the threaded collar is the nut? Have you assembled them onto the car yet? If you measured the distance the spring perch was from the end of the shock BEFORE dismantling old set up, you should be able to set the new ones up to start at the same height....

Your current springs likely have two blue (paint) marks: a slightly shorter spring, usually with two green marks, normally accompanies the adjuster type set-up.

Yes on my red Konis I had the same situation. I tossed it all and replaced with S4

I have an 80 which did not have adjustments for ride height. I bought S-type upper spring seats, Eibah lowering springs & and the lower threaded adjustable spring seat. That combo did the trick.

FWIW, I replaced non-adjustable original Bilsteins set up (M474) with adjustable perches, no change of springs. Went from ride height of 145mm front, up 25mm just replacing the shocks, setting the perches as close as i culd to original position, Have since lifted to spec 175mm .

Thaks everybody, I'll check if upper perches will help.

But as long as the lower ones are almost the same, I worry about ending up like heinrich...

Here's what my 1980 looks like at the lowest setting with 18 inch Turbo Twists. When I first got the lowering springs and the lower threaded dealio the car was almost too low to drive. The upper spring seats made all the difference in the world.

I would like to get some lowering springs on the front. Since I've taken all the weight out, I sit as high as a stock '78!

mine is too high, and will only get higher with the adj details. maybe it's too light for the springs.

So..
Would this problem with too high ride height be resolved with the Bilstein / Eibach setup on the OB?

Here are ssome pics to illustrate the problem
-all parts laid out
-perches, left:new style, right: old style
-height of threaded collar
-collar on Koni

The new style is only a fraction deeper, which means fitting the adjusters will add at least 15 mm to the shock/spring assembly, which means about 30mm to the ride height. And I'm doing this to lower the car... Any ideas? Cut the springs?

Eibach springs are 10" free height and the stock are 14".
There lies the difference I beleive.
