Default DEVEK X-over results in my 89

I was told to ignore the TQ below 3000 in evaluating the results due to torque converter mutliplication effect. OK, so the DEVEK X-over with Random Technology cats produced a 28 HP gain and 32 lb-ft TQ gain. At many points in the curve the TQ gain is 35 lb-ft and does not appear to fall below 30 lb-ft.

I was having some A/F mixture issues yesterday probably related to the inexcusable fact that I have never changed the fuel filter in my car in 5 years and 95K miles of ownership. It was last changed at 60K miles. Also, the in-tank fuel pump in my car is original and unchecked, and most people have found them barely connected to the outlet. My A/F results were all over the map from run to run and were generally lean even on the before runs. Sorry about that, Marc.

We did a bunch of dyno runs. Those shown above are typical when the fuel curves were as good as they got. The HP in one of the other "before" runs hit 332, but the TQ was off in that run. Last year the HP was 334 right after the SC was installed. On another "before" run that TQ peak at 2500 RPM hit 345, the number I have been quoting since my SC. In that run the top fell apart due to over-lean A/F at high RPM.

Overall I'm very pleased with the gains from this simple-to-do mod.

After I change the fuel filter and examine the in-tank pump, I'll get some further dyno results.

Yeah... now THATS what I call money well spent. Both the X pipe and the dyno time to prove its benefits...Congrats. You definitely need to post this in Sterlings "Best Bang for the Buck" thread...it has to be right up at the top in the "Performance" category..

Hi Bill...

Air pump is still hooked up?

I may need to be the next victim... lets see what it does to a stock car...

I guess the backpressure thing you were mentioning the other night is a mute point in the face of those dyno results... hehe

Seems like for the $ and ease of install the Xpipe is better first exhaust mod than headers...

Anders... you in CA or back in Sverige.

Well you need to get Back here... Sorry I missed you during the holidays.

I think in Marc's post a while back when he spoke of the X pipe he mentioned different materials...

Is your coated steel or stainless Bill...

Yes, the DEVEK x-over is equipped with the air pump connector and my pump is still installed and working. I don't have pictures, but the design is nice and the Random Technology cats are custom and completely integrated into the pipes - no clamps.

I think Marc already has results for a stock car.

I agree it seems like a pretty good way to get 30 ft-lbs of torque.

This is very impressive - an almost 10% gain from a part that's so simple to exchange...

The car sounds very nasty now and revs quickly. I bounced hard off the rev limiter in second gear last night, not noticing that the redline came up so quickly.

Thanks, Darien. The IC may not go in until May when I have to deal with smogging and will be removing the SC for that.

Good deal Bill! I added an X from Dave Lomas a few months back. I havent dyno'd it but im pleased with the sound and feel. 30ftlbs is a great gain for a bolt on!
I cant recall what size injectors your using but make sure your fuel pump isnt running out of breath?
