Default Wind noise from sunroof?

I have a lot of wind noise from what I thought was just the lip on the windshield. On a long drive, when futzing with the V1 on the visor, I realized it was coming from the front lip of the sunroof. THe sunroof looks like it's aligned well in the front. The passenger side corner is a little low, but I don't imagine that's what's causing the noise at the front of the sunroof.

Any thoughts? Is this just an old seal, and a new one would quiet things up? Or is proper alignment of all 4 corners part of the problem? I don't really notice any noise from the low corner.

No noticeable noise from the sunroof on my 86.5....plenty from the 3/8" gap along both ends of the windshield though...Why...did Porsche...(usually associated with very high quality fit and finish)...leave this obvious flaw, on this "flagship model"...with high speed driving almost a given, with the perfect balance and V8 muscle ??

I never noticed noise from the windshield or sun roof, but my driver's window does whistle slightly at speed. I wonder if that is due to the missing triangle thingy.

Jeff, you may already know that you can order GTS windshield moldings that fill the gap and fit fine on older models (at least GT's and S4's). I ordered them from 928 Specialists. They do cut the noise down significantly (e.g. what you used to hear at 40 you now hear at 60).

I don't hear a thing from my sunroof - one of the things I love about the car.

Steve...thanks for the tip. No, as a relative "newbie"...(less than 1 year ownership), I was unaware that GTS side shields were available as a 'cure" for the windshield side gap, but I am very happy to hear that. Will they fit OK on my 86.5 ? If yes...how much do they go for ? The reason I ask...is I don't know what to "search" for on one of the Big 3s website to purchase these. I regularly hit 100+ in my car, (don't tell)...and the noise although "tolerable"...would be much improved if this particular source were eliminated, or even dramatically reduced. My car runs very smooth and quiet...I have no complaints whatsoever, except the high speed windshield wind noise...which as I said, should have been noticed and cured during the extensive design and testing stages of this cars production and upgrades. Its unfortunate, that it took till the GTS model was released that this ill was cured. But...as I recall, the windshields are listed as 78-95 for replacements, so most probably the GTS side curtains will work on any previous model year. Anyone with specific knowledge on this matter...please chime in. Thank you.

Jeff, it's a little over $200 total for the two pieces for each side. You will see them if you go to 928 Specialists and drill down the path of -- Browse by Parts Type: Body Exterior: Moldings/Trim: Windshield. The items are Trim Molding Right and Left (2 pieces at $39 each) and Left and Right Rubber Seal (2 pieces at $70 each). They are listed as fitting all 928's. I can confirm part #'s from home tonight if you want to be sure (or you can call Jeannie at 928 Specialists).

The GTS parts don't eliminate the sound, but they drop it down a good bit. I also put a black sealer in the tiny gap between the center molding and the glass. That seemed to help some as well.

PM me if you need more info.

Well, I adjusted my sunroof with much help from Keith's writeup on the SoCal page. Looks like the sunroof was out at some point, and not re-installed correctly. The rear adjustment was as high up as it could go, but still the gap. I was a bit puzzled, and at this point took the sunroof all the way out. I eventually figured out that the bolts for adjusting the front had not been installed correctly, and were being used as the hold down bolts for the front. I put those in the right place and bought some new bolts to go where the adjustment bolts had been. Now the front and rear of the sunroof are aligned right, and the best part - signicant reduction in noise - I don't hear the wind noise that sounded like it was from just behind the windshield. Car is now much quieter at 80+.
