Default Shaking and Stalling

Not sure if the two are related, but they popped up at the same time one night.

'85 Euro S with rebuilt engine (only has 2000 miles on it).

Car feels like it vibrates from the transmission area under acceleration from 1-2k rpm, then the vibration is not as prominent (but still present) at higher speeds. Does not feel responsive to throttle. Seems to shake once entering 2nd gear.

Tranny has never been rebuilt and has over 100k miles on it. Fluid level is good.

Car stalls at random when under 2k rpm. Seems to happen more at slow speeds whereas if I'm under 2k at high speed, the tach will drop as if it is trying to stall out, then picks back up and keeps going until a later chance to stall?

Any ideas besides fuel pump relay (wrt to second issue)?

Does the engine exhibit any problems when the tranny is in neutral or is it only under load?

Earlier, when I was checking the ATF level with it in neutral, it stalled out repeatedly - so not only under load.

DUUUDE what's shakin' ....

Seriously, take it back to whoever fixed it. Euro cams are rocket science. It may be many things but you may want to check timing. Look at the belt WYAI.

Update: Car stalled out several times today on way to work. Before it died completely, it would restart in neutral (did not try park) and then die as soon as it was put into gear. Then would not restart - smoke began emanating from behind airbox.

Car is dead. I'm obviously going to take it in, but was hoping you guys might have some ideas...?

From your fist post, it seemed like there was something binding up and putting an unknown load on the engine, thus causing a stall while idling. It sounds like you suspected this as well.

If it were me, I would have stopped driving it and at least gotten it up in the air to for a look at the flywheel/tt. I would have tried to turn the engine with a rachet on the crank to make sure nothing was binding. Alas, I was late in seeing this thread.

Good luck and it's not fubared all to hell.
