Heinrich,
I think that having the cat was the point. The OB 32V was a green party option.

I wrote a story about this in the first edition of the "928 Forum". Bob Voytchef brought an 86 euro with aussie 32valver in to Canada a while back. Beautiful car...red with black interior and no sunroof. Early 86 but had the S4 suspension upgrades.
Apparently the 32 valver was offered (in 9:1 CR) with cats for those Germans that were environmentally concious..and also got a tax break I believe).
I would think it is rare..but desirable is a question only the individual can answer....for me the ultimate old style would be the 86 Euro S with the 16 valver......

According to Jõrg Austens book, in 1986, the 5l 32v vas an available option in Germany, Austria and Switzerland only. But why buy it? The 16v had 310 hp? and the 32-valver 288. I think this explains why it is so rare.
This engine was called option M298 and M299, and engine #'s are M28/45 and 46.
This engine was the only engine available for Australia.
It had a CR of 9.3:1 compared to the US 32v (organ pipe) with 10.0:1 and 292 hp. Torque number are identical, and I can see no other differences to the US engines (M28/43 and 44).

just was speaking to DR,
if I have this right, the 86 32v Euro is same as 86.5 US and is common
the 16v 86 Euro is the rarer of the 2 choices

This car claims to be an "1985 PORSCHE 928 315HP 5.0L V8 FI SOHC 12V ONE OWNER" It has the 32 valve intake and he has made the bidders private so I think he is all wet to claim 315 horses. The vin says US, and we know there is NO SUCH THING AS A 12 VALVE. I only bring this up b/c I didn't think there would be a 32 valve euro, but if there is, it makes my head hurt.

Euro 32V S is much rarer than '86 16V S. Trying to find either complete car or only engine for sale is very difficult. There are no such problems for 16V version. Difference is too large that it could be explained by only longer production period for single cam engines.

Manual gear box would be 2.72 instead of 2.20!

Looking for someone with an 87-88 manual transmission (2:20 w/ LSD) who would be willing to swap for a 85 Euro manual transmission. (2:73 w/LSD)
