I call mine GTS Reflections.
It should be even shinier when I pick it up from the shop today. It's been undergoing intensive reconstruction for the past month, recovering from getting side-swiped in November.

Screw the palms, I think the winner will be the first person to get a shot of coconuts (the human kind) reflected on 928 hood.
I tried to talk my wife into it, but she said it's too cold.

Up my way, a Washingtonian or Mexican Fan Palm(Washingtonia robusta) has a broad "fan" frond. That palm is very popular in both Calif. & Florida. There can sometimes be shown a distinction shown between a Washingtonian & a Mexican Fan palm, but basically it is the same palm. Many palms now have hybrids which further complicates a distinct ID on some. You are correct, the Washingtonina or Mexican Fan palm is a very hardy & fast growing palm. Kinda similar but nicer looking than the Sabal or Cabbage Palm(Sabal palmetto), which is the Fla. State Palm & natural growing palm throughout the state.
IMHO, the palm reflecting in Randy's hood looks much more like that of a variety of Phoenix palm, there are several that are popular. That one looks alot like either a Reclinata or Canary Island date palm frond to me. Without seeing the full tree including the trunk, it can be difficult to know for certain. Phoenix palms have also seen many hybrids from crossing varieties too, which adds to the fun.
Now I know there are is much more of a variety of palms down your way than mine, but everything I've ever seen on those types of palms, I've not ever seen a Washingtonian shown like that. I do have about nine different types of palms in my yard, including several Washingtonians & 10 Queen Palms. But, like with a 928, I'm always up for learning more & something new!
Ok... so much for my .02 on palms
The pics in order
Reclinata
Washingtonina(Mexican) Fan Palm
Canary Island Date Palm
Coconut Palm

I stand corrected. Randy's car is still too cool; at the same time I prefer my coconut palms!

Ahh... the Robellini.... what a great palm it is too... I have an 8' double trunk version in my front yard as well. I don't personally have any pics of one reflecting in a 928 though..... yet! I am just envious that we can't keep Coconut palms up our way due to the its lack of cold tolerance. One of my favorite things about heading to south Fla. is all the variety of palms that we can't grow up here! See ya in a few weeks Normy, we'll discuss palms in between the races at Sebring!

Actually, it's a Queen palm reflection on my hood. That thing is in my front yard - only 8 years old and already is at 30 feet tall.

Ahhhh the Queen Palm... One of my favorites and indeed a very fast growing palm... I have ten of those suckers of varying heights in my yard. Ones already 30' in about 7 yrs & two others are about 25' at least too!

OK..you guys...I did this for a living for many years and now you are going to make me quote you some Latin names without even looking them up!
Reclinata-That would be Phoenix reclinata
Washingtonina(Mexican) Fan Palm- that would be Washingtonia robusta
Canary Island Date Palm- that would be Phoenix canariensis
Coconut Palm- you have it listed
and Randy's Queen Palm is Cocos plumosus (sp?) though I think the secondary name was changed in the last 10 years
Incidentally, the cool looking palms you see in Palm Springs and Vegas that have a grey/blue look to the fronds are Phoenix dactalifera....by far the coolest looking palm on the wet coast.
(...someone stop me now!!!!!! that business just about killed me! )

Ah... the Reclinata..... I dont have one of those, but have almost bought one several times.... great looking with the multiple stalks they have... pretty tropical look; just not quite as cold tolerant up here & dont want to go thru that deal. Was just about to buy one a few years back, then we had the rare 20 degree freeze & I saw one near my house that was toast... took it about 18 months to even come close to coming back. Great looking palm though... and I've even seen a hybrid called a Roblinata... Roebelenii & Reclinata cross... interesting look, but same lack of cold tolerance compared to the Roebelenii
And the the Phoenix Dactalifera, infamous "DAC" palm...Beautiful, grows tall, typically hardy, lots of $$$$ and verrrrryyyy popular with city govts. and such along road ways & intersections.. we have lots of em here in Jax....
Heres a pic of a tall Dac; a clustered Reclinata; & a Roebelenii ....... sorry... no pics of 928s with em.... but I could walk outta my office & take a shot of my Shark & the tall Dacs that are right behind it at the intersection

And I'M the one getting ticketed for going off topic!? What is this fascination with palm trees? They aren't any fun to climb, you cant make guitars out of them, the branches and seeds litter the lawn and they're not even illegal to grow. So what am I missing here? Banyan trees are cool, Carrotwoods are fun to climb AND illegal to grow (at least in Cape Coral), and neither of them blow down easily in a hurricane. So other than making your car look good where did this palm tree mania come from?
