Bulbs for clear turn signal lenses
I finally got around to install the clear lenses on my own car, and went to the local Kragen to get some amber glowing bulbs. The clerk said there were no amber bulbs that fit the sockets for the bulb I brought as a sample, and there weren't any matching Silverstar bulbs, either.
Well, they had a pair of Silverstars that appeared to have the same connectors(2057A ST), so I decided to try them out. $20 later, I had a very brief light show when I first turned on the parking light, but then the bulb went dark and cloudy inside. The turn signal did still flash, but very fast. It was clear this was the wrong bulb, and I was glad that no damage was done to the car... Lesson learned!
Research here on Rennlist did not yield a correct bulb ID number. So I sent an email to Keith and called Bill, who was so nice to check what bulb he actually put into his car. It turned out to be an 1157NA ("NA" like "Normally Aspirated" - in a supercharged car...).
Off I went to PepBoys, and found the amber 1157 type, and they also had them in silverstar. I decided to buy both and try them out.
Now here is the interesting difference:
Obviously, you can see the amber bulbs through the clear lense. Not ideal, but it lights up beautifully in a clean orange.
The Silverstar turned out a little unexpected for me. With the light off, it looked more like there was something blue, not silver, behind the lens. And even when the light was on, there was always some kind of turquoise light mixed in with the orange.
I thought the latter might look cool, if one had all bulbs converted to silverstar, and particularly on cars in "cool" colors (white, blue, silver, teal, etc.), but I felt it just didn't look right on my slate grey, which essentially is a warm grey.
So I went back to the cheap amber bulbs for now. Maybe I'll try this again some time in daylight. Then I might also be able to take some decent pictures - they did not come out right when taken in the garage.
What bulbs are you guys using in your clear turn signals, and what are your thoughts on the amber vs. Silverstar?

I just put my clear turn lenses on. I plan to leave the white bulbs in too. I like the look of a white bulb over the orange. I am very happy with the look of the clear lenses too! I can't wait for the clear side markers to be available.

If they are indeed now available for purchase, perhaps they'll let us know here.

The clear side marker lenses will most likely not fit any 928 before the S4 model - it seems there is some difference in the lens that I'm not 100% sure of, yet. Before ordering them, check with your vendor.
I'll have them soon in clear and smoked, and by then I'll know which 928 models they fit.
