Your battery box, that is. Decided to do a little cleaning & took out my rear carpet. I've got a sub box in the spare tire well & removed that to look at my battery for the first time in about a year. Battery has been working fine except when I had the interior lights on too long working on my stereo & had to recharge. Anyway, I discovered corrosion around the base of the battery which would have gone un-noticed. This is on my 63K 90 GT which is in very good condition. Looks like the culprit is the clear plastic drain/fume hose which was routed under the battery & squished thus not allowing the battery to breathe. This forced liquid from the battery to exit the fill plugs & down the sides causing the corrosion. I've cleaned it all up & neutralized the acid with soda & am going to paint with some battery box stuff I read about in another post. Moral here is to take a look in your box on occasion.

I was in there the other night and i noticed that when i pushed the spare tire back down on in, it sparked when the metal touched the floor below it. I did it a couple of times to make sure I wasn't imagining it. I pulled the tire out and opened the battery door and the battery was sitting too high and the plastic piece that was supposed to cover the positive post/cable had fallen off, so the door was sitting right on top of the battery posts and the rim was grounding everything when I pushed it down. Weird.

This shouldn't happen if the securing bracket is bolted down firmly, unless the battery's not quite the right size. A number of co-owners have been surprised to discover the existence of the bracket, as theirs has been removed / lost by a PO. GOK why. Same for the breather tube. In my S4 I added the missing tube to find that it dumped onto the exhaust / muffler union; fixed with a plastic tie but worth checking.
