Making Rotor Hats for 993TT rotors on 928
I have a rotor hat set that I bought some years ago. I will be making some more for myself, and was wondering if anybody else would want some at about 100 or 200 dollars each hat. This allows you to use the 993TT rotors on your big brake kits. Saves a few pounds over the GTS rotors. PLus you can make your hats all different colors. I have designed them to be 6061 aluminum, possibly heat treated, but I need to get more info on it.
Here is the CADCAM of the part. Its not complete yet, but close.
And
Trying to make it as strong as posssible, though light. Open to ideas on material and info on whether heat treating aluminum would be good.
Any takers?

Not sure how thin the walls but heat treating usually makes things brittle, not good for a torsional load like that. Therefore I would stick with Steel and maybe put some fancy holes in it to lighten it up.

At least that was the info I had last time I checked!

OKay, no heat treating then. Most hats are aluminum that I am aware of. Steel wouldn't save much weight, though as you state, there could be some holes created to reduce weight.

Brendan, when I upgraded my MY85 to Big Reds, I bought a setup from a 993TT racer to use with the Bid Red adapters from the Big 3. The rotors are the 2 piece 993 rotors, bolted right on.

Here is a link to the wilwood rotor catalog:

You may even be able to get a set of blank hats from them, and just have the correct porsche bolt patern machined in.

Interesting. Anyone know more about whether the 993TT two piece rotors work with no different hats?

On another note, does anyone know where to get the nuts/bolts for the hat to bolt onto the rotor? I can't find them anywhere or anything aftermarket that would fit without interfering with the hat.
